With all of the uncertainties that so plague us, there are two reliable questions that reach us within a year at Maschenfein no matter what. Namely, "Will there be a Mother's Day Knitalong?" and " Will there be a Christmas Shawl?"

The Mother's Day shawl we had this year already. Today I can therefore quite solemnly present our Christmas shawl this year, which is hiding in the Advent calendar door for this weekend. Since today you can find the Frieda sh awl fresh in the Maschenfein store. And even two more matching kits ... Aw, I'll just tell you more about it directly! And for the right mood just listen to our maschenfein Christmas playlist.

What a calendar door!

When Marisa cast on a stole at the beginning of the year to distract herself from her Corona isulation, we knew pretty quickly: this had to be a finished design. But what should it be called? Given the current circumstances, we came up with a name pretty quickly: Frieda. Because peace is something we probably want more than ever this year.

The stole was so well received by you that we decided over the summer to transfer the pattern to a triangular shawl. And so Sandra tinkered with pattern and our faithful knitters Louisa, Marta, Lina, Sibel, Silvie and Sandra herself knitted the samplers.

Off to Berlin for photography

The scarves went after completion to Berlin to be photographed. This time Marisa's mom( you can find her on Instagramhere ) staged the knits. And even though the sky was gray, we couldn't be happier because the color and pattern of the shawls just come out so beautifully.

For the yarn, we chose two Lamana versions. If you like it fluffy, go for Milano and Premia. Otherwise, take Como. Either way, you get wonderfully cozy shawls that you can knit over the holidays, for example.

Of course, you can use other yarns (as always, the pattern is available for purchase separately ) and adjust the pattern repeats if necessary. Frieda is started in the middle of the long side and shaped with increases at the beginning and end of the rows and in the middle. And do not worry: everything is explained in great detail and with photos.

The end is a narrow I-cod, which visually frames the cloth together with the edge stitches. After washing, we recommend that you stretch the scarf with knit blockers to properly shape the shawl. Depending on how much "tension" your comb needles have, the edge will be stronger or lighter - just as you like it.

Of course we have something up our sleeve

Since we know you (and us), we have of course prepared something else. Because what would be such a beautiful shawls without matching hat and cuffs? Exactly. That's why Sandra has also continued to work on this front, it was test knitted and then packed you the finished pattern including kits in the maschenfeinen Advent calendar.

Knitted from Como and Premia from Lamana or double Milano.

Hat and cuffs are knitted from Como and Premia from Lamana. Alternatively, you can also use double Milano with or without Premia (without fleece, the stitch definition is then a little looser). Personally, I'm totally in the shawl-hat-cuffs fever, like three layers, because I like it so really cozy. By the way, the sweater you see at Marisa's is the Snanoe Sweater (word creation of the youngest Miss in the house of Nöldeke <3). The pattern comes in the new year and yes, we are also all quite hot on it!

So ... There was still something I wanted to tell you. Oh yeah! Since our new Frieda designs are hiding in the advent calendar door for this weekend, you can get the kits at 10% off with the code frieda2022 up to and including tomorrow night. Maybe one or the other of you still needs a gift for a knitter friend or you treat yourself and put it under the Christmas tree. In any case, we wish you much joy with it!

Excluded from the discount is the respective manual. But the purchase is really worth it. It is very detailed and also contains a picture tutorial for the cloth. So there is a lot of work in it.

Looking for fair isle artist

In addition to our beautiful new designs, there are of course a few more designs that I would like to show you today. Personally, I was blown away the other day. Yes, also quite literally, because preschool virus, but also figuratively, when I saw the latest design of Lene Holme Samsøe. The Porcelain Sweater reminds with its Fair Isle pattern of porcelain and as a big fan of tableware of any kind(Oh, the mug is but pretty!) I am qua character for something very susceptible.

Knitted top down with Tynn Peer Gynt and Tynn Silk Mohair from Sandnes. If none of you will take pity on me and knit it for me, I will "unfortunately" have to do it myself and will probably be finished in 2024. But it is simply beautiful, that cannot be denied.

Jeol Sweater

I also accidentally fell in love with this design: Jeol Sweater from aegyoknit. The tweed look. The pattern. Oh, yes, I would like to have it too!

You knit from the top down. The model is loosely constructed, the shoulders are formed with short rows and increases in the round. The front and back are then worked separately in rows before you close everything again under the arms to form a round. We suggest Como Tweed and Premia from Lamana for this model.

Of course I knit socks. Even two!

A reliable constant in my life (knitting-wise) is the fact that 99% of the time I don't get past one sock. I suffer from the medically recognized Second Sock Syndrome. Enthusiasm is high when I have the yarn in my hands, enthusiasm wanes rapidly when I get to the heel, it's virtually gone by the time I'd have to cast on the second.

Three new sock designs from Sandnes
,Photos: © Sandnes
All knitted from the equally new ...
... Strømpegarn.

But now it happens that Sandnes has launched a new sock yarn. Plus three patterns. So I'm going crazy. How cozy do these look, please? Two balls you say, Norwegian yarn manufacturer? Yes, come on, give it to me!

Strømpegarn consists of alpaca, merino and nylon and is consequently soft, warm and durable. The color palette is kept small, but there should be at least one color for everyone. To our great dismay, the pattern booklet is only available in Norwegian. But we translated it for you and you can get the German version exclusively from us. As always with Sandnes, the pattern are only available in combination with the yarn. So I'll take the color marzipan (already reordered!) or Bjørnebaer juice. And you?

In general, we had some new yarny arrivals the last few days. In addition to the sock yarn, a tweed yarn with cashmere content has also moved in from Sandnes. The fibers of Tweed Recycled come from leftovers in the yarn production or from recycled clothing. The gauge is about 20-21 stitches per 10 cm. Before we go on a little Christmas break with our Saturday coffee, I'll share some ideas with you next week on what you can knit from it!

The same applies, of course, to Høst, the new addition to CaMaRose. Sandra is already diligently swatching. Similar to Snefnug, Høst consists of an organic cotton tube into which fibers are blown. Here it is recycled wool fibers and organic cashmere fibers. The mottled effect is created by a special dyeing process. Aw, that really makes me want to knit!

And finally, a little cashmere dream had to move into the store. In combination with Pinta by Pascuali, Cashmere Dreams by Lang Yarns has already inspired Marisa so much whilest making a swatch that she had to order it for you. The yarn is an alternative, for example, for all those who need a supplementary thread, but do not want to or can not wear mohair.

Such a cute little bow ...

December Bow
December Bow by PetiteKnit.

Personally, I am always in the dilemma that I want to knit a lot, but I can not cope with the existing projects.

While my brain then sparks "Sophia, first the Kolding, then something new", my heart says "Oh, Sophia, a little project is still possible. Look, a bow!". And sometimes you have to listen to your heart. Do you? Do you???

Anyway. The December Bow from PetiteKnit makes my heart beat faster. With such designs you get me just always. Of course we put the kit on for you right away, you knit with Alpakka from Sandnes. And on PetiteKnit's site you can find videos on how to fold and sew the bow at the end, so that it gets its shape.

Also a nice idea: self-packed sets

Personally, I also like to give away sets that I have put together myself beforehand. For knitters, there is a whole lot of accessories that you can present, for example, in one of the new Petite Knit project bags.

For example, how about our new swatch tags, which you can now find in the store? In a small bag you will find ten tags that you can hang on your stitch samples. We're already using them diligently and are thrilled. Yes, it's a bit nerdy. But the eye knits along.

If you are still looking for gifts, just browse through our accessories. I also recommend our revised inspiration "Gifts for knitters". There you will find many, many ideas what you can give away or maybe put yourself on the wish list. At this point, I would also like to point out that you can also share your wish lists, which you can create and manage via your customer profile. For example, via WhatsApp. To your husband. Or your mother-in-law. Or whoever else might be looking for gifts for you.

A few more important notes

This week, we took a look at the latest news from our shipping service provider DHL and had a short call with our warehouse. Everyone is working at full capacity. That's why our delivery times are already delayed due to the high order volume. Everyone is doing their best and we thank you for your understanding. So if you still want to order gifts for Christmas, please do so until December 14. If you pay by bank transfer, please do it directly so that we can send your orders to the warehouse as soon as possible.

Of course you can also order gift cards at any time. If you pay via Paypal and do not order anything else, you will receive the voucher automatically after the order. If there is still something in the shopping cart, the gift card will be sent only when the order is transferred to the warehouse. And those who pay by bank transfer should take into account the booking times of banks. We can process all gift card orders that are paid to us via instant bank transfer by noon on December 23.

Our last shipping day for regular orders this year is also December 23. After that we go into inventory. Starting January 2, the packages and parcels will then go out to you again. Since you never know if there will be time for a few rounds of knitting between Christmas coffee, presents, arguments over food and a walk in the fresh air, you should take precautions. And if necessary, simply hide away 😉.

Maschenfein knitting round

Phew. That was quite a lot of numbers. Therefore, rather again quickly a bit of knitting inspiration from our #maschenfeinstrickrunde.

Really cute baby and children's knitwear you can see at Melanie and Saskia. There is the Friday Sweater Mini from Økologisk Sommeruld by CaMaRose and the Sunday Balaclava from Double Sunday by Sandnes. Both designs are from PetiteKnit.

And the right portion of Christmas you get (among others) at Louisa and Heidi. Both have knitted the Christmas Stockings from Fritidsgarn - and I'm sure all children - big or small - were thrilled.

I also went in search of the last Christmas shawls again. That was the cloth Ruby from Como Grande by Lamana. I found it among others at Marion and Sandra. The characteristic bobbles are just too great.

I for one have a great desire to knit along this year. Are you also with me? Have in any case a nice third Advent weekend. Don't forget to knit a little in between all the hustle and bustle!

Dear Sophia,
