{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}

A lot of things happen unexpectedly in life. The cold weather front, for example, caught me - haha! - caught me cold. But luckily things have improved since today - so I can push the cozy winter knitwear in my wardrobe a little further back after all. The famous silver lining on the horizon is here. In our case, even with glitter ...

Unexpectedly, some wonderful new clouds have appeared - in the form of sequins, for example. But there's much more to see ... So make yourselves comfortable and have fun reading!

In love in Berlin

As some of you may have seen on Instagram, part of the Maschenfein team met up in Berlin last weekend. In addition to work and brainstorming, the program also included a city tour and, of course, admiring each other's knitted pieces. Appreciation is just so important!

So for a week now I've been thinking about various projects (i.e. new ones, not the ones that are already in the basket or in the wardrobe or - it happens - in the form of a fine knit package next to the desk). At the forefront is the maschenfein Luna shawl made from Midnatssol by CaMaRose, which Marisa wrapped around her neck at some point in view of the very cool temperatures and rain showers.

I've seen it quite a few times in my Instagram stories or in our photo database, but in real life ... boah. So beautiful!

Wrap yourself up in it once. The most beautiful form of knitted cocoon, in my opinion: the maschenfein Luna shawl.

The shawl is worked in two threads. We have adapted the pattern for the yarn slightly - the addition is automatically included with the purchase and all those who have purchased the original pattern have received an update.

You start at one end of the shawl. The design is suitable for beginners: you should be familiar with knit and purl stitches as well as increases and decreases. The pattern is based on the Fibonacci sequence, which goes back to a super clever mathematician from the 12th/13th century, who I of course already knew before I came across the Luna shawl. And even if logical sequences of numbers don't arouse much passion in me, I can still see the aesthetics that result from them. Or, to put it another way, the design makes even math haters smile!

What other finished projects were there in Berlin? Take a look here! But beware, you might want to knit one or two of them ...

All very well, isn't it? As I said: I'm currently having slight, rather negligible problems with prioritization. But let's ignore them now and take a look at Lotilda's latest design instead!

You can now find the kit and pattern for the FEIYA V-Cardigan in mohair Luxe from Lang Yarns. The simple design has the absolute cuddle factor, but remains nice and light thanks to the yarn used. So you can wear it all spring long or take it with you on vacation and be perfectly equipped for cooler summer days.

The FEIYA V Cardigan is knitted from the top down in stockinette stitch in one piece. All hem cuffs are worked with a decorative 2 x 2 cuff. What you need to know: Loop cast-on, increases in back and forth rows at the shoulder yoke, picking up stitches from knit pieces and semi-elastic cast-offs (I found a little tutorial here ).

I see red!

Tori Yu - Skyline Tee
Such a pretty summer shirt: Skyline Tee.

It was also interesting to see different colors in Berlin. I don't normally wear red, but out of sheer curiosity I put the Mother's Day shawl Lotti in burgundy around my neck (greetings to Lina at this point, who knitted the scarf). What can I say? So great! I would never have chosen this color, but it definitely worked its magic.

Since then, my eye has often wandered to red pattern pieces and so of course I couldn't pass by the Skyline Tee by Tori Yu from New York. Mary-Anne has the kit for you - and also from Pinta by Pascuali to match Lotti. We expect the missing colors (for example strawberry!) in May.

The shirt is knitted from the top down and is constructed with a saddle shoulder. The body is simple in stockinette; the sleeves with ribbing are the eye-catchers. I am blown away! The pattern are in English. So here's the obligatory reference to our free translation table and: Take heart!

What I'm particularly looking forward to in the coming days and weeks is being able to hang my bright yellow, heavy rain jacket in the wardrobe. I love it of course, it's not like that, but I think a little time out is good for us. How nice it will be to see you again in the fall!

Instead, the cardigans are now moving to the front, which will work wonderfully as a jacket replacement (and of course I also have a thin rain jacket ready for all those miserable rainy days that await us).

Loose fit

I think the College Loop Cardigan from Other Loops would look great on me. Even though I'm no longer attending an educational institution, you're as young as you feel! And this design definitely gives me a 90s vibe - which I really appreciate!

In the kit you will find Como Grande from Lamana. It is knitted from the top down. You start in the middle of the upper back section. When choosing your size, note that the design is designed with extra width (approx. 22 to 30 cm, more for the smaller sizes, less for the larger sizes). As always with top-down styles, you can adjust the length to suit your requirements. Of course, college jackets get their charm from the slightly shorter fit.

Straight cut, fine details

Isabell Krämer - Mabel
Very different from the college jacket, but just as beautiful: Mabel by Isabell Kraemer.

If the 90s tend to creep you out, no problem! I have another cardigan for you - Mabel by Isabell Kraemer. You can also find the matching kit here. As an alternative to the original yarn, we opted for So Kosho by Ito. The virgin wool yarn with a touch of cashmere is perfect here!

Isabell has constructed the design seamlessly top down using the "contiguous set-in sleeve" method. The sleeve is knitted in seamlessly, but has the fit of a set-in sleeve. I keep saying it: sometimes knitting is a bit of magic (and math, of course).

The model is kept rather simple, but features fine details such as the indicated side seams and the cable pattern on the facing. So knitting won't be boring! And you'll end up with a cardigan that you can wear up and down.

Sequin appearance

At the very beginning of our little chat, I told you about a sequin cloud. Some of you probably already know what it's about ... namely the EmiScarf by Alex, who you know as Sinchens Knitwear or from her store in Fürth.

Using a silk mohair yarn and the sequin yarn from Wolle Halle, she has conjured up a beautiful brioche scarf that is very simple in its knitting style and sparkles all the more thanks to the yarn combination used! She wore it at h+h, where Marisa immediately noticed it.

Fluffy and light

And because Mrs. Maschenfein was so impressed, we have created the matching kit for you and of course also ordered the sequin yarn. The great thing is that the little glitter wonder comes on a 200 gram cone - so you only need one cone for the scarf. Add to that six balls of Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive and your very own glittery delight is ready! You knit with one skein of sequin yarn and two strands of silk mohair. When you buy the kit, you get the pattern for free. And for those who don't like mohair, we have created a second kit with Organic Brushed Alpaca from KAOS Yarn.

But as is the case with things that inspire many, there must also be sufficient quantities available. Wolle Halle is working hard on the yarn, we've put everything in stock for you and you can already order. Please note, however, that the sequin yarn will not be ready for shipping until around the end of June.

Tips for shoulder pain

If you knit a lot, you may be familiar with it: your shoulders ache from time to time.
Photo: ©️ Ines Grabner / Maschenfein

However, you can tackle issues such as tension after knitting immediately. After my doctor took a deep look at my date of birth ("How nice! You can now have an annual check-up!"), I realized that I'm not getting any younger either. And indeed, my shoulders sometimes hurt after knitting all evening.

Apparently, Mette from PetiteKnit feels the same way, which is why she shares tips from her physiotherapist in this Instagram post. Of course, you shouldn't take this as a doctor's pattern or simply do any exercises without being asked (!). But if you have problems in this area yourself, you could perhaps ask your doctor about it. And I'm thinking about whether Marisa and I should work on a little yoga program for knitters. That would be something! 😉

Maschenfein knitting round

So I can already see the pictures of you sharing photos of your knitted pieces and your yoga mat. But it will be a while before we have the maschenfein yoga program for home. Until then, here's what we're looking at:

Photos via Instagram: ©️ instagram.com/manu_strickt / instagram.com/chill_n_strick

Manuela has finished the maschenfein Mother's Day shawl Lotti. I'd like to say it again: red is great! I'm really starting to think about my future color scheme ...

Sandra dares to crochet - which I think is great! She will soon be crocheting Ica from Lamana for a hobo bag from Paula_m.

You can see a stitch still life at allenurmeins. In addition to the Clover Tee by Lene Holme Samsøe, which has already been started, there is also a bag by Kaliko and our Mara needle case by Franzi Klee. À propos: It won't be long until the next slot!

Claudia shows you how wonderful multicolored knitting can be. She is hard at work on the Polina sweater from Tetis Lutsak and is using Double Sunday and Peer Gynt from Sandnes.

So what are you spending the weekend with now? Are you browsing through the colors of the sequin yarn, are you tempted by a Luna shawl or are you disciplined enough to finish your current project first? Let us know in the comments! Have a lovely weekend with lots of knitting time!

Simone

...I'm already looking forward to the yoga exercises. 🙏👍 Thank you so much for the lovely Saturday coffee. 🙏👍
Sunny greetings Simone

Tatsiana

Hi there 🙂 I've definitely added the Skyline Tee to my wish list, although I've never knitted according to English pattern before, but this part might make me do it😉.
Just now I finished the Peacock blouse (knitted with Knitting for Olive merino together with Ito Sensai). I knitted it in dark green, and somehow I keep saying it's Christmas blouse.
On the needles I've completed half of Skagen Tee, knitting it with Morning Salutation by Kremke ( soft peach color).
When I've finished that, I'll start on Shore Tee (my second, I gave the first away, the second is for me).
Best regards to the team, I feel somehow connected in the knitting round💕

Conny

Hi, I have been knitting for 46 years but I have never knitted from the top as I don't think I can cope, I love some cardigans though, is it possible to get the pattern from the old version?
I don't think I can cope with the counting for my size and all the stitch markers unless there is a step by step guide.
Best regards Conny Julien

Christiane

Dear Conny,
Top down is much easier. You can see more quickly whether the width is really right and you can easily adjust the length. It's much more fun to start at the top. The finished piece simply fits better. And the pattern from PetiteKnit (and other designers), for example, are really great - almost stitch by stitch and there are also lots of videos to help you. And you're definitely not a beginner😉Take heart - even at the risk of only wanting to knit top-down afterwards - at least that's how I felt 🙈🧶
Have a great weekend and happy knitting, Christiane
