I probably do not need to tell you, but tomorrow is the first Advent. It always comes sooner than you think. Does anyone know where the box with the Christmas decorations is?

But stop! Please don't get stressed out now. After all, times are exciting enough right now, so let's not worry about a missing candlestick or a half-full Advent calendar. No, no. My tip is to make yourselves comfortable with coffee and cookies and enjoy your Saturday coffee!

The dress is here

So nice and cozy: Magnolia Bloom Tunic from Snefnug and Midnatssol.
Photo: © Camilla Vad

One of the nicer news of the week for me was that the tutorial for the Magnolia Bloom Tunic by Camilla Vad is online. And I don't want to say anything, but some on the team have already bought the yarn for this one without knowing the gauge or even the amount needed. That's how much Camilla Vad's latest design blew us away when she showed it on Instagram.

Our good fortune was that she revealed the original yarn and so we could at least research the gauge about it. Add to that our experience value plus a pinch of optimism - et voilà: We decided for Snefnug and Midnatssol from CaMaRose. Fortunately rightly so, as it now turns out.

Knit the cozy dress with turtleneck top down. Right from the start promises a lot of fun: The magnolia pattern known from Camilla Vad adorns the yoke. This is simply a joy to knit and is also nice to look at afterwards. For those who are afraid of knitting dresses because of the length, I can perhaps comfort you with the indicated needle size 6 to 7. I myself am rather pessimistically inclined, but trust me a completion of the dress quite until Christmas (2021!).

New and not so new from PetiteKnit

Jenny Sweater and Chestnut Dress: both from PetiteKnit.

Don't be alarmed: PetiteKnit also has several (!) new designs on the way. Among others also a dress: The Chestnut Dress is the long version of the sweater of the same name. Because of the length, I wouldn't be so sure to finish it by Christmas, but New Year's Eve and hopefully a cold January are coming, and some of you like to ignite the knitting turbo. As yarn we suggest British Blue Wool Fingering as yarn. I think that's really great, because so also all non-mohair enthusiasts get their money's worth. For the sweater, on the other hand, we have for you Saffira and Manada from Pascuali in view. A dream combination - quite honestly!

The sweater on the left is the counterpart to the Cardigan Jenny. In the kit to the sweater you will find Baby alpaca 10/2 from BC Yarn in combination with Silky Kid from Kremke Soul Wool. If you like smocked patterns, you should have a look at both designs. But be careful: Here you knit from the bottom up. Knit the sleeves separately first and then take everything for the decreases on one needle. If you're looking for an advent challenge, you've come to the right place!

Landed by chance at Marisa, but now already very loved: November jacket from PetiteKnit.

Maschenfein

A PetiteKnit design I still have and then it's also good for today 😉 But the November jacketwhich I'm sure you already know, I wanted to bring out. Because as it is sometimes, you have to see some things first dressed to fall in love.

That's what happened with this jacket: it landed unplanned in our maschenfein shop window and after Marisa tried it on, it clicked with me. This cardigan in full brioche is just perfect for the wet and cold season. Knitted with Peer Gynt from SANDNES. This is of course not as soft as other yarns in this strength, but it fits really well with the design.

Jule also has a few color tips for you right away: 2652 Mellombrun melert ("This color is worn by Marisa."), 2321 Marsipan ("Great new color!"), 1042 Gråmelert ("This is the original color at PetiteKnit."), 4228 Rød ("A great bright red for good mood in winter."), 7272 Dyp Petrol ("A nice, clear winter color.").

Light and airy shirt: Alive & Kicking by Melanie Berg.
Photo: © Melanie Berg

Who breaks out in a sweat with all the cozy designs now: Do not worry - I have the solution. Namely a pretty shirt from Melanie Berg, which you can wear solo or with a long-sleeved shirt underneath.

Knitting is done Alive & kicking top down with Kinu and Sensai from ITO. We also used this yarn combination for our Mother's Day shawl this year and I imagine a top made from it would be just great.

Cuffs, gauntlets and a headband

On Instagram we have already shown them and in the store surely one or the other has already discovered them: Our gauntlets Lexow and the matching headband Missed Lexow are online and of course also available as a knitting kit. Both are knitted with Snefnug and are the perfect Christmas gift - even to yourself! By the way, we give you the pattern for the headband both in the kit and individually with the purchase of the gauninstructionsttern. Because Advent begins and because we can all use a little joy very well.

By the way, the design is named after our team weekend in the village of the same name on the Mecklenburg Lake District. The headband, however, is called Missed Lexow - precisely because Jule, who designed it, was unfortunately ill.

I still have a gauntlet model: Ani has sent me her design Sissi Mitts and I would like to show it to you. Here you will also find a cable stitch definition, but it looks completely different because of a completely different yarn.

Knitted here with the crown yarn Premium Merino Yak from Regia. Depending on how you knit, you probably get two pairs of cuffs from one skein - 400 meters yardage are just very productive.

Gifts for children and adults

Here is a small gift tip for children: Maybe your children or grandchildren are already interested in your knitting needles and would like to try knitting themselves. Then the small Knit Kit for Kids from SANDNES would be something for you. In the case is a booklet with simple pattern for accessories, a few knitting needles from Addi and two balls of knitting yarn. Fritids yarn. The colors you can put together in the kit itself. With me, the child currently meets only the first requirement, but we still have some time until the first knitting class 😉

Another gift idea - this time for grown-ups - would be Marisa's stitch test course at Makerist. It's perfect for beginners and of course for everyone who wants to know more about stitch tests. By the way: Since this week, besides the inspiration Christmas gifts knittingthe inspiration page with Gifts for knitters online. There you will find soooo many ideas how to fill your own wish lists or how you can make someone with knitting addiction a joy.

The latest Christmas issue of SANDNES is also on its way to us. It has - rightly - made an impact and had to be reprinted. We expect it in the coming week in the warehouse. You can already order it in the corresponding kits. We will send it to you as soon as possible.

At this point, by the way, a note about the current delivery times: Due to the current situation, we are working in the warehouse under special safety precautions. DHL as a shipping service provider also has its hands full. So it may be that your delivery takes a little longer than usual. You should keep this in mind with Christmas in mind. We will do what we can in any case 🙂 .

Maschenfein knitting round

Hach, beautiful! More pieces from our #maschenfeinsandneskal are finished: for example, the Elle slipover at Silke's. Wait, you say slipover?! Was that in the magazine? No. But Silke has spontaneously converted her sweater and I find it very successful! At Claudia 's the Lourdes Genser finished. I dare to predict: This will be a real favorite!

Warmly wrapped up are also Louisa and Andrea. The former in her Ånund sweater by Tiril Eckhoff, the other in her Hinata scarf. Here, too, I'm sure that both designs will be very popular.

In any case, I wish you a quiet, knit-filled weekend and a beautiful first Advent. Now more than ever: Stay healthy!

When I get dressed in the morning, reaching into the sock drawer has been part of my routine again for a few weeks now. Unfortunately, there's no other way. And when I'm in the home office, comes in addition to my normal stockings on top now always a few self-knitted socks. This keeps the feet warm and I find knitted socks just great. In my eyes, the foot warmers are no longer old-fashioned.

Because autumn has really arrived now and we also want to start providing you with the first gift ideas for Christmas, in this article we show you beautiful sock designs, tell you our yarn favorites and also make a little excursion into the world of felting.

New design from Sandra

Like so many, the sock hype has not spared us. No sooner did the first designs appear on Instagram, it itched mightily in our fingers until we all fell over one by one. Sandra has become the first weak, which is why it is only fair that she provides you and us with its own design.

The socks Trudi are knitted double-threaded from the Premium Silk of REGIA, a really very productive yarn. You start at the toe - toe up is what it's called in the jargon. The special eye-catcher is then the broken rib pattern that extends over the instep and shaft. The cuff of purl and interlaced knit stitches is cast off in Italian. I tell you, who once started with it, wants nothing else for cuff finishes!

The Premium Silk color palette is small but fine. There should be something for every taste. In addition, if necessary, you can also switch to the other crown yarns from REGIA: Silk Color (for all lovers of splashes of color), Cashmere, Bamboo or Merino Yak.

The delicate shimmer and clear stitch definition of Premium Silk make this yarn the perfect sock yarn for me. Closely followed by Premium Cashmere, because #dieworldneedsmorecashmere ✌ .

Socks from Paula-m and PetiteKnit

With the above mentioned yarns you can knit - also double - the Basic Socks from Paula-m. With the catchy two-two rib pattern, you'll be on your way in no time and quickly have a pair of socks in hand. Our tip: From size 40/41, it's worth investing in three balls and knitting two pairs of socks. Alternatively, you'll have to knit a shorter shank in this size to get by with one skein.

For the basic socks you can also fall back on SANDNES. We have packed Perfect into the knitting kit. Due to the 20 percent synthetic fiber content and the superwash treatment, the yarn is extremely robust.

To the knitting kit "Basic Socks

My current favorite are the crown yarns from REGIA. Gladly also double knitted - at the moment I just prefer to wear heavy socks. But the next thing I need is a pair of cashmere!

Marisa

Whatever yarn you decide to use: I really like Paula-m's sock tutorial. As always, it's super detailed and garnished with nice details like an Italian stop at the cuff. It's precisely this that ensures that nothing presses against the calf. How do you work an Italian cast on in rounds? We'll explain that to you in a video, of course:

If you like the socks from Paula-m, we can also recommend the Sunday Socks from PetiteKnit. They also have a double rib pattern, but they don't have an Italian stop and have a differently worked heel.

If you want to knit socks that you can also comfortably put in your shoes, the Everyday Socks - also from PetiteKnit - might be something for you. Here you can again fall back on the sock yarns from Schachenmayer. The socks are knitted from the shaft to the toes, the heels are worked with short rows. Striped or plain - the choice is yours!

#socktober at LAMANA

Do you know the sock yarn from LAMANA? Merida is a blended yarn of merino, silk and polyamide. For a pair of socks with a normal shaft length you need two balls of Merida (200 meters per 50 grams). By the way, in October (or "Socktober") you can find free sock pattern at LAMANA. The stockinette stitch knitted model includes sizes 18 to 47. For the small sizes you can even get by with one skein.

As always with LAMANA convinced me here the color palette all along the line. The muted colors make you really want to cozy knitting hours on the sofa.

Socks all day long

You want the full sock experience? All right, 😉 SANDNES has published its own themed booklet on what is probably the biggest classic among home-knitted items. In the booklet you'll find a total of nine pattern for women's, men's and children's designs. We have created the kits for you with Smart or Perfect by SANDNES. Attention: Currently the booklet is not available. But we expect a package with supplies in the next few days and keep you up to date!

Another classic - but among the pattern - seems to be the book "52 Weeks of Socks" by Laine from Finland. We keep reordering it, you keep buying it empty. We'll see how long that lasts 😉 .

In the book you will find pattern for socks and slippers - one more beautiful than the other. I sometimes (unfortunately far too rarely at the moment) just sit down with this book and leaf through it. The women at the small Finnish publishing house simply know how to present knitted pieces in a beautiful and high-quality way. By the way, with "52 Weeks of Socks" you also have a great Christmas gift.

About the book "52 Weeks of Socks".

Now it is felt!

Long time no longer made, but once again really want it: Felting! Jaaaaahren ago I have crocheted me once slippers (!) And then felted. Unfortunately, I no longer have them, which I regret very much. Fortunately, there are Ravelry and designers who have something suitable in the portfolio. For example, there is Nina Ruth, who has designed felted slippers.

Knitted here with the Fritidsgarn from SANDNES. You work both in rounds and in rows; the knot on the shaft is knitted as a long tube, then sewn together and then attached to the actual shoe. And then you felt! To do this, you put the finished knit in the washing machine. This is always such an exciting moment. But it's just so much fun!

Knitting becomes even more beautiful with the right accessories

It's like always: A good pair of needles here, a great tensioning set there - bang! - the most beautiful hobby in the world becomes even more beautiful. From needles to sock tensioners, you'll find everything here. Maybe you want to try the sock wonder from addi? Or would you prefer the double pointed needles from Chiaogoo? And how about a pin to show everyone that you are a proud sock knitter?

You can choose between sock tensioners from Twig & Horn and KnitPro. The goal for both: To bring the socks into shape after washing and to help the pattern unfold (I can really imagine how my husband would smile at this sentence. But we all know that socks also deserve washing and (!) stretching).

You can also find our needles in the accessories section. Sandra and I are self-confessed needle-play knitters when it comes to socks. Marisa, on the other hand, uses the Sock Wonder. How good that there is a suitable accessory for everyone!

The cute sock pin is available from Twig & Horn. I really like such little things. A small pin here, a pretty needle measure there - so the knitting experience but only to the round thing! Every now and then I look for nice pattern in a book... I'm off! Have fun knitting (socks)!

Help, I am excited. Already last winter the idea germinated very slowly in my head to start a new blog. A knitting blog. So one besides the old already four year old blog over there, which I don't intend to close, but which should just not be exclusively about knitting. And that's what I wanted. Just a pure knitting blog.

Here it is now! Hello and welcome to Maschenfein! A new blog with a wonderful new logo, developed by my friend Martina the formgeberin. I am attached to the knitting needle and do not want to give it away and here I can get rid of everything that comes to mind and much more. Now I am of course terribly excited if you come to visit me here. So I just start and wait and see.

New knitting blog

There were also over on the old blog already many beautiful things that I will show you here bit by bit again. For example, the cable pattern beanies for my Miss and me, or a super great triangle scarf for the friend P. two-thread knitted from Filatura di Crosa Superior and BC yarn Semilla, which I have to show you here soon times in full glory. There was a very simple hat with pattern for the tubular cast-on for the DaWanda blog, a huge XXL scarf for grandma, a pretty cardigan for's Fräulein and some more that never ended up on the blog.

So, because I realized over time that I would like to report so much and so much about wool & co., but somehow it got such a weight in terms of content that it found no place in my old blog, here is a new place.

Maschenfein is a blog for knitting lovers or those who want to be. For beginners and experienced hobby knitters. By the way, you can also crochet, I do that sometimes. I'm happy about every reader and hope of course very much that you participate and diligently comment and above all also ask and tell what you would like to see and read.

In addition to the blog, there is now finally my small e-book store on this page, where my tutorials are ready for download, I will also sort the free books there and who knows what will be added in the future so everything. My e-books got a completely new layout, of course also by Martina, they look great and are even more fun! I have many ideas on which I already werkle, there will soon be more pattern, I will report.

You see, I have a lot planned, that will be fine! All the way Maschenfein! Are you with me?
