{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}

Sunshine galore - what a start to May! I have to confess: I was blown away. My desire for summer, sun and being barefoot is simply immense and the prospect of all the beautiful summer knitwear makes me really happy!

In addition - and your wish is (almost) always my command - a reader has requested a Saturday coffee with a focus on summer yarns. Well: I'll do my best today and show you some great designs and the matching summer yarns. Maybe that'll help you get over the heavy hail showers that have fallen on some of you. Make yourselves comfortable, put on your sunglasses and enjoy reading!

Summer yarns from Norway

One of your favorite summer yarns - and I completely understand - is Line by Sandnes. The cotton, viscose and linen blend yarn is pleasant to work with, hard-wearing and has a beautiful color palette.

So start thinking about which color you would like to knit the Palme Tee Solo by Lene Holme Samsøe in. The shirt is decorated with a pretty leaf pattern on the yoke - typical of the Danish designer - but is otherwise kept simple. You knit from the top down. And since Line is worked with 4 mm needles (of course you'll be doing a gauge swatch, right?!), your summer shirt will be ready in time for the real summer.

The summer knitting list is getting longer and longer ...

A classic for the summer: Summer Ella Solo by Lene Holme Samsøe.

In general: I really like Lene's designs. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to knit one of them yet. Scandal! For example, I've had my eye on Sommer Ella Solo for a long time. We've had the kit in the store for quite some time, but it just hasn't made it onto my needles yet. But maybe this year! Here, too, you knit from the top down with Line from Sandnes.

Another yarn from Sandnes that is perfect for mild temperatures is Duo. It consists of 55% virgin wool and 45% cotton and is considered a year-round yarn. Not too warm, not too cold - simply a little all-rounder!

It is used in the Raunioiset Junior Cardigan by Suvi Lyytikäinen, among others. Don't worry: the correct pronunciation of the design and/or designer is not a prerequisite for purchase. In any case, I was immediately in love - I love knitting things for my children. This model is still a little too big for my daughter, but it's already on my list for next year - there's also a mini version and even one for larger sizes!

Help with English knitting terms

The pattern are in English, but as you know, that's not an exclusion criterion for us. On the contrary! There are so many great designs out there for which there is simply no German translation (yet). What a shame it would be if I didn't show them to you from time to time!

So if you have children to knit for (the pattern range from approx. four to approx. eleven years): Go for it! Click here for our free translation chart. The pattern is knitted from the top down with a pretty yoke. Otherwise, work in garter stitch and finish all edges with an Icord.

Another duo for the summer knit

Gregoria Fibers - Vilma Top
I think it's really cute: Vilma Top from Gregoria Fibers.

Another duo with the Vilma top from Gregoria Fibers. I'll be honest: this model would probably have passed me by if I hadn't happened to see this photo here.

That's how it is sometimes - and that's the beauty of DIY: You decide on the color. What I like doesn't have to please everyone else and vice versa. And sometimes it really is just the shade of color that makes a model look completely different.

The Vilma top from Gregoria Fibers is knitted from the bottom up. Of course, this makes trying it on a little more difficult, but after knitting the June Top from PetiteKnit from the bottom up last year, I'm relatively fearless. Of course, you will have to lengthen the pattern here (the front is decorated with a lace pattern), but if you are not an absolute beginner, you will certainly manage. An important note: you have to lengthen below the armholes! The sizes of the vest range from 91 to 135 cm chest circumference, the positive ease is between nine and eleven cm.

Let's continue with summery yarn recommendations

Another great summer design from Gregoria Fibers is the Margaux top. Here, too, you work from the bottom up - but lengthening should not be a problem either. Just make sure you repeat the pattern as a whole.

We knit with Morning Salutation from Kremke Soul Wool. This yarn combines fine Greek cotton and TENCEL™, a Lyocell fiber. The latter is made from wood that comes from certified and controlled sources. Morning Salutation is cooling, silky soft and moisture-regulating.

The gauge is indicated in the pattern with a needle size of 3 mm. Make sure you do that! I've just had a look at our database and compared two samples from my colleagues. Same needle size - two stitches difference. So take your time. A well-fitting garment is the reward!

Love of stripes meets love of summer yarn

Dingley Dell
You definitely want to knit stripes for the summer! For example in the form of Dingley Dell by Isabell Kraemer.
Photo: ©️ Isabell Kraemer

One of my favorite pure cotton yarns is also Organic Cotton from Krea Deluxe. The quality is really great and the color palette is ideal for ...

... stripes! Exactly! How could a Saturday coffee with a spring or even summery mood do without them! I've picked out the Dingley Dell shirt by Isabell Kraemer to match the yarn.

The design is inspired by the cricket sweaters of the 90s (hello there!). The contiguous-set-in-sleeve method gives the shirt a fantastic shoulder section and a loose, casual fit. Dingley Dell is knitted from the top down in one piece.

Longing for a cozy knit? Longing for the beach and the sea!

For this Saturday coffee, I asked my colleagues for a brief picture of their mood. Whether they already miss the cozy knitwear or are already in full summer knitting mode. In addition to quite clear answers ("I'm all about summer!") or a slightly nostalgic post from the boss ("Or do you miss the lovely cozy winter knitting evenings in summer like I do?"), interesting neologisms such as knitting zophrenia or the fact that you simply always like to have both came to light.

For me: definitely summer knitwear

I'm very summery myself at the moment. If I could, I would fill the paddling pool with all the beautiful cottons, linens and silks!

Pure Silk from Knitting for Olive is also a must. The pure silk yarn is perfect for a summery wardrobe and is used in the Sunshine Tee by Andrea Gaughan, which was discovered by Mary-Anne.

As far as the shortened cut is concerned, I can give the all-clear straight away: The pattern also include a longer version. If you want to knit this, increase the number of balls of the main color in the shopping cart by one ball. Otherwise, you knit from the top down - so adjusting the length is really no problem! The pattern are in English. However, the level of difficulty is moderate - don't be afraid!

Striped love and On the needles

Let's talk about stripes again ...
Photo: ©️ Marisa Nöldeke

As you can see, summer yarns often turn into stripes! That's simply the law of knitting. So it's clear that a suitable inspiration here on maschenfein.com was overdue. Louisa has put together some tips and tricks on the subject of stripe knitting (no more annoying "steps" when changing colors) and of course added matching patterns. So after a cup of coffee, please head this way and read on.

Just in time for May 1, "On the needles" also went online. Once again, I asked my colleagues about the progress of their current projects. Like every month, you can find out how our knitting discipline is going!

Even more reading material

Reading in general! Every month I order a Danish magazine that is all about everything pretty and hygge from the North - I just love getting lost in it. The same goes for beautifully designed knitting books. Big plus point here: I can then get the feeling of life directly onto my needles.

New to our store and in keeping with this spirit are Artic Knitting by Annika Konttaniemi and Dreamy Knits by Johanna Ekström-Partanen. While the former takes you on a journey through Lapland and the art of multicolored knitting, in the latter you will discover 21 patterns, all of which are based on ideas that were created during walks along Helsinki's coastline. The photos in both are uniquely beautiful! You just want to dream away ...

Both books are from the English-language publisher Cozy Publishing - and the coziness mentioned in the name is to be taken literally! For example, we also have Softly - Timeless Knits by Sari Nordlund in our program; another book that you simply love to have on your coffee table.

More yarns and even more summer knits to follow soon!

So before you continue reading and browsing through the store, just a little note: Of course, that's by no means all the summer yarns we have in stock today. There's also Nepal from Pascuali, Ica from LAMANA, Økologisk Pimabomuld from CaMaRose and Gima from Ito. And so many more! They will all come into their own in the coming weeks - don't worry!

Maschenfein knitting round

And how summery is it in our knitting round? Let's take a look again at the end - of course, the selection makes no claim to completeness! 😉

You can discover two Mother's Day shawls Lotti here: Martina has just started (remember: I've only wound two out of four skeins into a ball!!), Nadine is finished. At least with the first one ... 😉

In both cases I knitted and will continue to knit with Pinta from Pascuali. The missing colors will follow this month!

Kitty works on the maschenfein Mininata - here in the luxury version in cashmere 6/28 from Pascuali.

And Isa has another cozy knit. She knits the Levitate Wrap from My Favorite Things Knitwear. Made from Snefnug by CaMaRose. In pink. Oh, oh, oh!

A longing for cozy knitwear - sure, that's there! But I'm really looking forward to all the summer projects. Tell me, what's going into your project basket next? In any case, I hope you were able to pick up a few more yarn and knitting ideas. Have a lovely weekend with lots of knitting time!
