A wonderful good morning to the Saturday coffee with net talk, insights into the Maschenfein ideas and lots of knitting inspiration. Oh yes - and with a different author! Today Sophia is writing here. You already know me from the last newsletter. For the next time Marisa and I want to take turns with the Saturday coffee. Mainly to relieve Marisa a little bit. The newsletter itself will be paused for a short time. Not because you didn't like it, but because we want to make it even better. And that needs a little time. So. And now I'm pretty excited because I know how much you guys love Saturday Coffee. But I promise you that I put a lot of effort into writing this and I really hope you enjoy reading it. So, get your coffee and let's go!

Autumn feelings

With the beginning of September, all signs always point to autumn for me. I see the first flocks of birds getting ready to head south. The nights are cooler, the mornings are still dark, and soon the chestnuts will be falling from the trees. Sure, we knit any time of year, but fall is still the start of the ultimate knitting season every year, although of course I still enjoy a few warm late summer days. But in my head the knitting list explodes, stitch samples are knitted and felt and I can tell you: The Maschenfein team is bubbling over with ideas! The whole thing is so "bad" that I sometimes have to take the cell phone in the evening in bed to write down an idea. But they all benefit you - I promise!

I dare you now to look very, very carefully in the direction of - attention, do not be alarmed! - Christmas to steer. So, now it's out. Do not be angry with me, but especially as someone who likes to give handmade gifts, you can not think about it soon enough. And again and again you ask us for beautiful designs for men. And LAMANA has heard you. And we have added the matching knitting kits. And now you know what that means: LAMANA has launched its first design collection just for men. And it's just great!
You'll find a total of eleven designs in the LAMANA men No.1 magazine - all made from the Superlight yarns Como, Como Tweed, Bergamo, Milano and Modena. Now that I'm writing down all these yarn qualities, I'd like to knit a model right away. I'm particularly fond of the Cardigan 09 and the Sweater 06. But it's been far too long since I knitted Bergamo - so I'd have to go back to Hat 04. Either way: All great and I can really imagine my husband in the designs. And the reproach "you never knit anything for me" would then also be eliminated.

Sandra has put on for you this week the "Like a cloud" cardigan by Joji Locatelli. The name is no coincidence. The combination of Lunar and Silk Cloud by Shibui has really cloudy character. I have Lunar lying here and am already totally thrilled with the skein. So soft and thanks to the silk content of 40 percent also with a wonderful, delicate shimmer. By the way, I will knit an easy triangle shawl from it. The perfect projects for beginners or just in between.

Well suited for beginners is actually also "Like a cloud". The pattern makes so much, I think, but thanks to the alternation of right and purl stitches is very memorable and just good to implement even for novice knitters. You start with the straight back piece, which is worked up to armpit height. Then pick up stitches from the cast-on edge for each of the two front pieces and knit them in the same pattern up to underarm height. Then join the back and front pieces and continue to the cuffs. Finally, pick up stitches from the edges for the sleeves.

When I was surprised the days again and again by rain showers and a fresh breeze, I have directly wished for a heavy, cozy cardigan or sweater. Quite appropriately, we created the knitting kit for the "Novice Cardigan - Chunky Edition" by PetiteKnit directly after the release. Mette Wendelboe Okkels, the woman behind PetiteKnit, often transforms existing designs to create a new eye-catcher. And for me, this cardigan is "unfortunately" one. I'm wrestling hard with whether I'm going to put it on my viiiieeeel too long knitting list. All the way to the top, of course. With a needle size of 6 mm, it's also a snappy knit. You'll knit from the top down, starting with the collar. With increases in the round yoke, it goes up to armpit height, where the sleeve stitches are set aside accordingly. After the body is the desired length, you will finish with a cuff. The sleeves are worked over the previously set-aside stitches.

Woolly for warm feet

If you have a warm back, you also need warm feet. For this we have suggested you in the newsletter and in the penultimate Saturday Coffee the "Basic Socks" from Paula-m. Sandra has already surrendered to public pressure and ordered wool. I think I'll fall over soon, too. In the knitting kit, you'll find Perfect by SANDNES, a blended yarn of 80 percent virgin wool and 20 percent nylon. Sandra has chosen Smart, also from SANDNES. The superwash treatment makes this pure new wool yarn suitable for socks. I'm flirting with Pinta by Pascuali. The 4-thread yarn doesn't use polyester or nylon. Instead, it gets its stability from a 20 percent ramie content. The natural fiber belongs to the group of bast fibers. Silk gives Pinta a beautiful sheen and the sheep's wool gives you warm feet. And here's the best part: You can also knit basic socks with double support!

By the way, we have really nice sock tensioners from Twig & Horn in our store. They motivate you in any case to knit the second sock, if you are like me one of the people who lose after the first sock but also times the desire 😉 And if you are looking for more model inspiration: We're expecting a shipment of "52 Weeks of Socks" from Laine Publishing any day now. I'm telling you: such a beautiful book! I love flipping through it and want to take a walk in the woods in Finland every time after reading it. That's how well it's done.

Have you heard the new episode of our Maschenfein podcast "Just one more row"? Marisa arranged to talk to Sandra on the phone - and let the recording run along. The result is a nice conversation: The two talk about what they had on the needles, what they currently have on them, what accessories they currently like best and what's new at Maschenfein. Little spoiler: I also think the project bags from Kaliko are soooo pretty! Besides the project bag with handle, we now also have the one with zipper in the store. I'm leaning towards the zipper version (And no, it wouldn't be my first project bag. But I also never knit just one project. Therefore...).

I already hinted at it: The Maschenfein team is bubbling over with ideas. We have a lot of beautiful things planned for you and hope that we can implement many of them. For example, Marisa recently visited Franziska Klee in Leipzig, who makes bags and accessories from natural leather with her team. And this much I can reveal: Marisa was not there to stock up privately....

"My favorite knitted piece"

For the Saturday coffee we have thought that we can always tell you what was our favorite knitting this week. Since the weather in Würzburg was quite mixed, I could reach for my autumnal knits with a clear conscience. And I was really happy about the Sandnes cardigan made of silk and mohair. It knits up really quickly and is a great piece for so many occasions. Absolutely recommended!

Tanja from lotilda.de recently said - when she showed her yarn growth in her Instagramstory - "Team Rosa, please sit down!" I would hereby smoothly take over. As a self-confessed Team Rosa member, I'm very fond of the Instagram account of Dane Regitze Laustsen. And I would bet turtlenecks will play a big role in the knitting scene this winter....

From the Maschenfein knitting round

Susanne (left) has the Lakota leaf hat on the needles - one of our classics that I've wanted to knit for so, so long. And let's be honest: The combination of knitting, coffee and chocolate (and cookies!) is perfect.

On the Instagram account of allesnurmeins (right) you can see the creation of the cloth 01 from the Lamana issue 09. knitted from the Cusi of LAMANA. With the beautiful red I hear directly the autumn leaves rustle!

At Ani (left) you can already admire the finished Milo Cardigan by Miriam Walchshäusl. Knitted from the duo of SANDNES it will be a real cozy piece for the fall. The design is coming soon and then there is of course also the matching knitting kit in the store.

Kathrin (right) knits on two fronts (well, who doesn't have more than one knitting front?!). On the left the scarf Kolding by ChrisBerlin and on the right the BLANK sweater by Kim Hargreaves for ROWAN. Off the top of my head, I wouldn't know which project I'd rather keep knitting on!

I really hope you enjoyed this Saturday coffee. Have a wonderful weekend with lots of knitting time and a golden start into autumn!
