What could be better than knitting a cozy baby blanket to celebrate the arrival of a new arrival? Here and there I've mentioned that I'm a bit alone in my circle of girlfriends when it comes to knitting and crocheting. Not that my friends don't love to knit or crochet, too. Of course they do! No, they just don't really dare. That needs to be changed, but all in good time.

Baby blanket beautiful pattern knitting

I do have a friend who even knits a lot and in turn has provided other mom friends with beautiful baby blankets and knitted pillowcases. We also have two such cozy pillows made by Cécile! She knits such beautiful things, she should actually necessarily have their own knitting blog, then the knitting projects have namely "another sense", as Cécile put it quite dry. .

But as long as she is not yet blogging herself, I am very happy about her hopefully very frequent visits here at maschenfein! Today I can show you one of her beautiful baby blankets. Made from the pattern of the Elevenths Hour Blanket by The Purl Bee.

How to knit a beautiful, simple baby blanket?

The main part super easy knitted in the pearl pattern and then very special by the slightly more complicated edge knitting! And so it goes:

1) Stitch test: To begin, simply knit a stitch test with the desired yarn and needle size in the bead pattern (see point 2). Then measure how wide you knit with a given number of stitches and calculate this to the desired blanket width. For a baby blanket, this would be about 80cm.

2) Bead pattern: Cast on the odd number of stitches you calculated from the sample and knit each row as follows: * 1re, 1li ** repeat from * to ** and knit the last stitch in the round. Repeat this row until the desired length of the blanket is reached.

3) Attached I-Cord: That was the easy part, now it gets a bit more complicated to give the blanket the final, beautiful edge. So after you have knitted the blanket and loosely chained the last row, the edge is to be knitted around with a cord. This is called "attached I-cord", I don't know a German term for it. How to do this I show you in the tutorial "I-cord border", which is available for free as a PDF download in the store.

What wool is suitable for a baby blanket?

Beautiful, isn't it? For baby blankets in this way are suitable, for example, the yarns Merino Baby or also the cashmere cotton yarn Sole quite great!

The easiest baby blanket in the world is the baby blanket "Paul & Paula". And anyway, we have many beautiful knitting kits for baby blankets in the store, you can find them all at a glance here. Including matching wool and knitting pattern!

Rose

Hello everyone, can you get the knitting pattern for the Kora baby blanket without a knitting kit?

Yase

Hello,
came across your site by chance and am thrilled 🙂 what needle size & length was used for this beautiful blanket? VLG Yase

Louisa

Dear Yase,
here we used needle size 4 with a length of 80cm. You can knit this pattern with different yarns. Therefore, you should always make a stitch test, with which needle size you get with your yarn and the pattern a suitable knitting.
Best regards
Louisa

Hi, did you take the yarn double for the baby blanket? The bead pattern seems so heavy and the yarns given have a needle size of 4. Thanks + lG Dunja

Louisa

Hello Dunja,
the photos are a bit older and from the time when Maschenfein was "only" a blog and didn't have a store yet. The blanket you see on the pictures was knitted according to the pattern mentioned in the text. According to Ravelry, this pattern calls for a bulky gauge of yarn. That's probably why the yarn was taken double for this photographed blanket. But the pattern, which is described further down in the text, can be made with any yarn. Single or double yarn is only important for the stitch test and the size of the finished blanket. That is why we have given our tips for calculating the amount of yarn. The yarn recommendations given are for yarn that we generally recommend for baby blankets. It's best to choose a yarn and decide whether the blanket should be finer or coarser. Then decide whether you want to knit with two yarns and calculate the amount of yarn you need.
Best regards
Louisa

Veronica

Hi Sophia,
would like vo you know how much wool I need basically for a baby blanket. Shall have the size 80×100 cm.
Thanks already for your effort

Love greetings , Veronica

Sophia

Hello Veronica, unfortunately that is not so easy to answer. It depends on the pattern and your knitting style (tight or loose). Roughly you can plan with about 1000 to 1200 m yarn. We would suggest that you order 1000 m of your desired yarn and see how far you get with the first two balls. If it's too little, you can reorder and have a good chance of getting the same batch. I have presented suitable wool for baby clothes or baby blankets here: https://www.maschenfein.com/babystrick/ If you have any further questions, feel free to send us an email to "support@maschenfein.de". In any case, I wish you lots of fun knitting! Best regards, Sophia

Petra

Dear Sophia,

I would like to knit the baby blanket Nola.
In the description there is no size, but I should definitely know, because it should not be too small (we already have one).

Many greetings
Petra

Sophia

Dear Petra, the finished blanket has a size of about 80×100 cm. Of course, it is important that you make a stitch test to see what needle size you need to get to the specified size. Best wishes and have fun knitting! Sophia

Sabine

Dear Maschenfein team,

I came across your beautiful website and the baby quilt on your cover, the purple one with the beaded pattern and the Attached-I-Cord finish in yellow.
Of this blanket, unfortunately, there is no page where you could add number of balls, pattern... to the cart.
Would you please help me?
Kind regards
Sabine Wedhorn

Uschi

I would like to know what yarn you used for the baby blanket in the pearl pattern and what color it is. Did you take the thread twice.
Thanks for your feedback
Kind regards
Uschi Pabich

Sophia

Dear Uschi! Thank you for your comment! For the baby blanket in the pearl pattern you can use, for example, the yarns Merino Baby or Sole by Pascuali (both knitted separately). The gauge is not critical, as the pattern can easily be increased or decreased. Also great for a baby blanket is Como or Como Tweed from LAMANA. The important thing is that the yarns are nice and light. If you need more help or inspiration, feel free to email us at "support@maschenfein.de". And have a look at our knitting kits for baby blankets - there are also great designs! Love, Sophia
