Whew, pretty hot! Do you think it's too warm for knitting inspiration? I don't think so. Instead, I'll just put a few ice cubes in your Saturday coffee. If you like, you can have a dollop of cream on top and of course there's net talk for everyone. So, put on your umbrella and let's go!

First of all, a weighty statement: Tops and shirts are notoriously divisive. Arms covered - yes or no? Personally, I like to wear with sleeves, but I appreciate the airy advantages of spaghetti straps. (Is that actually still how you say it today? Urgently need to get on the phone with the noughties). A good compromise between the two are definitely the following two designs.

Good compromise: overcut sleeves

Wilma shirt
Nice and breezy: the Wilma shirt by Miriam Walchshäusl.
Photo: © Miriam Walchhäusl

Brand new is for example the shirt Wilmadesigned by Miriam Walchshäusl, who you know from Instagram as @mrsfunnyvalentine. The shirt is inspired by the black track and field athlete Wilma Rudolph, who won several gold medals in the early 60s and was active in the US civil rights movement.

Wilma we have created for you in the knitting kit with Sparrow from Quince & Co. Knitted from the top down. The false seams on the sides provide the otherwise simple shirt for a little eye-catcher. Short rows also make the back a little longer than the front. And have I ever said I'm a little in love with the color palettes of Quince &Co. yarns? They are just too beautiful! Also, please don't be scared when knitting a pure linen yarn like Sparrow. If it feels almost a little hard to work with, it will be softer when worn.

Quasi multifunctional it becomes with this model: Allora from ChrisBerlin. The summer vest can be worn open as a short-sleeved jacket or closed as a shirt. Here, too, you knit top down, the button placket is worked in double knitting technique.

In the kit you will find the Bio Balance from BC Yarn. It's slightly warmer than a linen yarn because of its composition (55% virgin wool, 45% cotton), but still good for summer because of the plant fiber content. By the way, the pattern also include five video tutorials - so you should be well prepared for all eventualities.

Allora
Also light and airy: Allora by ChrisBerlin.

Also great in summer: children's knitwear!

If you want to be even faster knitting, you should think about children's clothing. The prerequisite for this is, of course, that you have someone to knit in the appropriate size, but then nothing stands in the way of a mini project.

You know the old knitting law: one stripe still goes!
Photos: © SANDNESGARN

It is even easier if the selected model contains stripes. True to the motto "One more stripe is possible", you'll probably be finished faster than you'd like.

The following two styles caught my eye in our knitting kits. The shirt Summer stripper has wide block stripes and is knitted with the cotton yarn Mandarin Petit knitted. The same yarn, but narrower stripes you will find in the model Stripet T-Skjorte. Thanks to the many different colors, you have all the possibilities to design the shirt according to your wishes or - even better - according to the wishes of the people to be knitted.

Sugar, right? Rysjekjole by SANDNES or Seaside Dress by Marta Porcel - the choice is hard!
Photos: © SANDNESGARN / Marta Porcel

Of course, dresses are also very cute. Here for example the striped model Rysjekjole by SANDNES from Tynn Line or - from the same yarn - the Seaside Dress from Marta Porcel. Both have in common the A-line shape and the ruffles on the arms.

You can also get into the summer mood with the SANDNES designs from issue 1505. Since the issue is no longer published, you can now order the pattern individually in the respective kits. Have a look at this page - don't forget sunscreen!

... or cloths

Shawls are also wonderful projects for summer. Especially when they come across as light and airy like Snow by Melanie Berg or Seedling by Pauliina Karru.
Photos: © Melanie Berg / Laine Publishing

I can also recommend shawls as a possible summer project. Especially if you knit them from light, airy yarns. Suitable would be for example Snow by Melanie Berg (don't let the name confuse you). The yarns used here are the wonderful Shibui yarns Lunar (merino/silk) and Silk Cloud (mohair/silk). We have again almost all colors in stock. Please have a look at the rest of the Shibui-offer. Koan (Linen/Silk) is also a great candidate for summer and comes for example - together with Lunar - in the Loovi Tee by Rosa P. for example.

My beloved Laine magazine - or rather the great women behind it - have also recommended in their latest newsletter the shawl Seedling by Pauliina Karru for the summer. You can find the model in the shawl book 52 Weeks of Shawls and you can knit it for example from Pinta from Pascuali. Also Puno Winikunka, also Pascuali, would be possible. Here some colors are missing, but the great natural tones are there. Just note that your shawl from Pinta might get a little bigger if necessary, since the gauge doesn't quite fit here. The composition of the yarn, however, harmonizes perfectly with the cloth - which is why we recommend it to you.

New at Maschenfein

Organic Wool 1
Goes perfectly with Maschenfein: the yarns of Krea Deluxe from Denmark.
Photo: © Krea Deluxe

From the bottom of my heart I also want to recommend our new addition to the wool shelf: From now on you can find the yarns from Krea Deluxe in our shop. Maybe one or the other of you already knows the Danish yarn manufacturer, who attaches great importance to a clean production chain and very good quality. Except for the glitter yarn Shiny all other qualities are GOTS certified.

And so you will find now beside the glittery yarn also Organic Wool 1, Organic Cotton and the very fluffy Deluxe Silk Mohair with us. We are of course already looking for suitable pattern. For example, if you like to crochet (small things), you should look directly at Krea Deluxe.instructionsttern are in English, but all the cuter for it. And how about this bag, for example?

And then I told you a while ago that I'm currently knitting the dress Lotta by Marie Greene from the fifth Laine Magazine. The knitting kit has been with us for a while - and on top of that we now have good news: We have had the pattern translated into German for you. If you buy the kit from us, just send us an email to "support@maschenfein.de" with proof of purchase ofinstructionsttern (or a photo of the corresponding page from the magazine) and we'll send you the translation.

I also found this embroidery tutorial on Instagram that is easy to follow. Dzejna shows how you can embroider a pretty flower on knitted pieces. I think it's a great idea to decorate plain shirts with some flowers. Also, we wanted to ask you what video tutorials you would like to see. Are there any knitting techniques or questions about knitting that you'd like us to explain in moving image? Feel free to let us know!

Maschenfein shop window

Such a great piece: the Sailor Sweater by Anne Ventzel for the Maschenfeine showcase.

In the Maschenfeinen shop window you can recently also admire the Sailor Sweater sweater by Anne Ventzel. Marta knitted it and yes, I know, the heat does not allow long sleeves - but isn't it just beautiful? So I'm looking forward there directly again to cooler temperatures!

Maschenfein knitting round

You yourselves are knitting mixed as well - sometimes with short, sometimes with long sleeves, sometimes a shawl, sometimes a top. How beautiful! That's how knitting should be. Charlima42 shows her scarf Carla on the beach. If this picture doesn't make you long for vacation, I don't know what will. And at Gantenstein you can see the Jules Sweater from the Ica from LAMANA. After I knitted the cozy version in winter, I absolutely need the summer edition too.

Louisa knits herself the Anchor's Summer Shirt. A rascal, who thinks, I have seduced her to it. And you can find a beautiful basket full of summer yarn at Karacraftstuff. Some of the wool will be used for the Emma Top. Finest summer knitting so!

I wish you now a lot of fun knitting, enjoy the weekend!

Andrea

Dear Sophia,
whether you still say Spaghdttiträger, no idea but sure is that you no longer say blacks, but colored people.

LG Andrea

Dear Andrea, thank you for your comment. Since this topic is very important to me, I did some extra research beforehand. Terms that should indeed - and quite rightly - no longer be used are "colored" or "dark-skinned", as these are attributions from colonial times. "Black" (deliberately spelled with a capital S"), on the other hand, is - like People of Color - not an attribution, but a self-chosen term. Of course, it always depends on the context and whether it is important to mention the main color at all. In this case, I chose to do so because Wilma Rudolph herself experienced racism and was involved in the U.S. civil rights movement. By the way, I checked out these two sites: Language Against Racism and Glossary of Discrimination-Sensitive Language. Have a great weekend! Sophia
