Jessica has sent a final greeting to the knitting world on her blog. She has lost her fight against cancer, of which we have learned so little and which we could only guess from some of her pictures. I would like to dedicate my Saturday coffee to her today and share a little about what I have heard from Jessica over the years.

Saturday Coffee 68 Blog2

We met at a blogger conference in 2013. Jessica was mostly knitting and sitting somewhere with Heidi, a Norwegian knitting blogger, handing out her schoenstricken business cards. Schoenstricken was then a good year old. I was currently also infected by the knitting virus, but was still writing my old DIY blog. I remember very well how amazed I was to meet two pure knitting bloggers - how on earth can you knit so much that you can fill a whole blog with it? Today, of course, I know better myself.

The blog schoenstricken is a firm authority in the German knitting world. Together with her knitting expert Katrin, Jessica has built up a great community over the years, written books, organized Knit and Crochet Alongs and brought many readers (back) to the needles. Her idea to name the yarns in her first online store after Berlin districts was simply brilliant and the idea hit the spot. Later, it developed into a permanent cooperation with Lang. I immediately believe her that she had so many more ideas. And she would have implemented them. I'm sure of it.

Over the years we have met from time to time. At a Blogst workshop, in Nina's store, at Nina's book party or just like that. Mostly she had her little daughter with her. At some point she also sent me a big pile of wool, which I used to knit her lace scarf at the Knit Along. She worked like crazy on all her ideas around schoenstricken. It was an insane amount of work. The books, the Knit Alongs, the many orders to be packed.

About the cancer, Jessica has been silent and only who looked closely, could see in her pictures, whether it was a good phase or a rather bad phase. I knew about her illness only for a few months and whenever it was so long silent in her blog, I had a queasy feeling.

Dear Jessica, we hadn't seen or spoken in a while. Only now and then an exchange on Facebook or a Like on Instagram. You still had so many plans and so many ideas. I am sorry from the bottom of my heart that this illness has torn you from your life. I wish your family and your little daughter just infinite strength.

I think about you.
