{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}

Let's talk about (yarn) feelings today. The other day, when everyone here was healthy, the children were back at nursery and I was just sitting at my desk, I immediately had the feeling that an impulse purchase at Maschenfein would be just the thing. And what did Louisa say? "Always bring on the yarn feelings!"

So we got a bit carried away with all the beautiful qualities that are just waiting to be knitted. Plus new knitting kits and - oops - what's moved in with the accessories? Let's all take another look together. Make yourselves comfortable and enjoy reading!

For fresh spring and summer days

After a warm start to May, the weather has become a little cooler again, so the beautiful cardigans and sweaters were allowed to come into the light once more. And what's wrong with a long-sleeved project? It will be used sooner or later one way or another!

So I was really pleased to see the new design from ANKESTRiCK. The BABA sweater has everything we love about Maschenfein: an interesting collar, stripes and a portion of fleece.

Knitted from the top down with the ITO dream combination of Rakuda and Sensai. Virgin wool and camel hair meet silk and mohair. I once knitted myself the Easy triangular shawl from this wonderful duet - or rather "quartet" in view of the composition. And if my sister hadn't talked me into it, I would still be wearing it! The sweater requires a little more knitting know-how than the shawl, but thanks to the raglan it is also suitable for advanced beginners. And what's the saying? A stripe is still possible!

Fluff-free but colorful alternative

ginny Cardigan
I think it's SO cool: Ginny Cardigan by Susanne Sommer.

Very, very different - but I think it's just mega - is the following model: The Ginny Cardigan by Susanne Sommer is a boxy cut cardigan in a checked pattern with pockets.

The checks are created by alternating two-colored patt stitches and garter stitch rows. The different colors of Merry Merino 140 from Kremke Soul Wool, which we recommend for the jacket, really highlight this structure.

Incidentally, brioche is the trademark of the Austrian designer. But even if a model manages without one - they are always eye-catching! Be sure to browse through her Ravelry store. Elevate has been on my list for a long time and I think I'll ask my colleagues for a kit next week.

If you prefer colorful knits just for children, you should definitely take a look at PetiteKnits Holger Cardigan. The jacket counterpart to the Holger Sweater is also knitted from Double Sunday by Sandnes. You can use up leftovers or use the finished kit. The generous color palette of the merino yarn makes everything possible! The quality is also easy to care for and ideal for children's clothing. Machine washing is possible - but always test the wool wash cycle with the gauge beforehand.

Knit from the top down. You shape the shoulders with short rows. I really like the way the stripes meet! In addition to the body, which is worked with stripes, the sleeves and panels are kept plain. The cute label that Mette has sewn in for her son will be included in your next order!

Playful for the summer

Johanna Gehrisch - Vincent Blouse
So pretty for all summer festivities: Vincent Blouse from kolibri by Johanna.

When it comes to yarn sensations, LAMANA is of course a must. After all, one of our first manufacturers on board and always a reason for great heart palpitations!

There is Lima, for example, a blended yarn made from merino, silk and alpaca. Wonderfully soft and perfect for all year round! Johanna Böhme, who you know as kolibri by Johanna, has used it to design the Vincent Blouse. The shirt has a Carmen neckline with ruffles and wide sleeves. You can pull the blouse over your shoulders or wear it a little tighter (as you can see in this picture ).

Airy fit

Knit from the top down. For the neckline, you start by working a kind of band in double knitting. This is basically the core of the knitted piece: you knit the ruffles at the top and pick up stitches for the yoke or body below. Make sure that the band fits particularly well when you close it in the round. If the neckline is to be smaller, it must be worked shorter accordingly.

The design is designed with fullness, so it sits nice and loose at the end. Depending on the size, you will need to allow 40 to 50 cm for the smaller sizes and 25 to 35 cm for the larger sizes. The sleeves and body are finished with an Icord.

"Cotton yarn feeling" for the summer

Last week I also recommended Organic Cotton from Krea Deluxe - one of my favorites for temperatures above 25 degrees. So great yarn feelings here on my part!

Today I have the Maya Tee by Miriam Walchshäusl aka mrsfunnyvalentine as a new knit-along recommendation. The shirt features so-called Estonian Braids, i.e. accentuated bands of stitches that interrupt the otherwise reverse stockinette shirt. The cuffs and collar are doubled and create a beautiful, subtle contrast with stockinette stitch. Miriam has opted for a soft color gradient in the original, which you can easily recreate with the pastel colors of organic cotton.

Crochet fever with Maschenfein

Products that we discovered at the industry trade fair in Cologne in March are also gradually moving into the store. These now include two yarns from the Finnish manufacturer Lankava. Lilli Tube Yarn and Paulina Chunky Twine are perfect for crochet projects - and I'm really happy about that! I regularly get crochet fever, especially in summer, and what can I say: many of my colleagues feel the same way now!

That's why we have also created kits for the new yarns. Baskets and bags are simply ideal summer projects. We have also ordered matching handles and wooden bases so that everything is nice and sturdy. I already have a set in my shopping cart!

Yarn sensations and sustainability

The manufacturer itself can look back on almost one hundred years of history. The focus is now on sustainable production; for example, the two yarns mentioned above are made from 80% recycled cotton. Cotton scraps from the fashion industry are reprocessed into fibers from which the new Lankava yarns are spun. They are already sorted into the respective colors so that no further dyeing is necessary. The additional polyester content in the yarn ensures stability.

Bags and baskets in general! You can never have enough from a project bag point of view. Which is why the French Market Bag from PetiteKnit is now also available with a circumference of 80 cm. The diameter is then approx. 25.5 cm. If you already have the pattern, you will receive the update automatically via Ravelry or the PetiteKnit website. Anyone who has bought the printed version from us will also receive an email. Please be patient - you should have the extended version in your mailbox by the beginning of next week at the latest!

And did you know that we have our own inspiration on the subject of bags? You can find it here. And I happen to know that Katharina is currently working on a crochet bag for Maschenfein... look forward to summer!

One last treat at the end

Available with and without pockets - but in bright colors: Carah and Jarah Cardigan.
Photo: ©️ Katharina Althoff

Katharina, who you may already know under her designer name knittingforelse, has also been working on her own model over the past few weeks. Now the cute children's cardigan is ready - and there are actually two of them!

From now on you can get patterns and kits for the Carah and Jarah and Cardigan exclusively from us. You will receive both patterns as a bundle at a special price.

Help with color selection

The construction is the same for both designs: you knit from the top down. The eye-catcher is a beautiful textured pattern that adds variety to the knitting and gives the model that certain something. If you prefer something more reserved, stick with the Carah model and knit pretty pockets. Jarah is more colorful (but without a textured pattern for the colored stripes). To help you decide which colors to choose, Katharina has put together a little guide on how to combine colors appropriately. You can download the guide for free here.

In the kit you will find the original Double Sunday yarn from Sandnes. I have already mentioned it above: the merino yarn, which has a gauge of 20 to 21 stitches per 10 cm, is ideal for children's clothing. It is hard-wearing and easy to care for, yet beautifully soft. Which is why my daughter's Lulu Slipover Junior is about to go for a spin in the wool wash cycle thanks to the toothpaste stain 🙂

Attention, watch out!

Do you remember our stitch accessory bag? We have ordered another small edition. It goes online on Monday! So make sure you're on the waiting list if you want to get your hands on this little space miracle for your favorite accessories. Update: You can find the bag here.

As soon as the bag is available again, you will be notified by e-mail - provided you have registered for the waiting list - and can also equip the bag with the matching accessories. You simply select this in the product. What would we knitters be without scissors, measuring tape and stitch stoppers? Exactly! As usual, the bag is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton.

Yarn feelings for Mother's Day

A banderole for your Mother's Day shawl: print it out, wrap it up and enjoy!
Photo: ©️ Louisa Müller-Gauditz

But what comes before Monday? That's right - Sunday! And this Sunday is Mother's Day. And we all know what that means: it's the official end of this year's Mother's Day Knit-Along! Personally, I'm still knitting away, but many of you have already finished your Lotti shawl and are either already wearing it yourself or will be giving it as a gift to your mother, grandma, aunt, friend or another loved one tomorrow! A fine knitting tradition that makes us really happy every year.

If you haven't finished wrapping yet - wait a minute, then I have something else for you! You can download a banderole to print out here. Add a little flower and you have the perfect gift for Mother's Day!

Maschenfein knitting round

Our knitting round this week is once again all about the Mother's Day Knit-Along and our shawl Lotti. I've picked out four pictures for you. Take a look:

Pinta from Pascuali was and is used everywhere here. By the way: If you've been waiting for a certain color, you can buy it again from now on. This week, supplies of most of the missing colors finally arrived. We expect the rest by the beginning of June at the latest. You can already order turmeric, cloud and strawberry again - individually or directly in a knitting kit.

Marion decided on the color lemon, Nadine chose hydrangea. The pictures are now a few days old again - I'm sure one or two more rows have been added!

Rosi and Petra both opted for turmeric - the difference in color here is due to the different lighting conditions. The rich yellow hue definitely makes us look forward to all the beautiful spring days that lie ahead!

With the wide range of colors and fibers, intense yarn sensations are inevitable. So now I'm reorganizing my shopping basket and quickly getting back to knitting. The next project is already waiting! Have a lovely weekend with lots of knitting time!

Thank you so much for this inspiring Saturday coffee! Susanne Sommer is a revelation, I will definitely be browsing there. The Holger cardigan is also on my to-do list for my granddaughter (2), the whole family likes it rather plain and in natural tones. And my stitch accessory bag - in daily use! Nice that I was able to get hold of one.
I'm currently struggling with the "Field Mitten" pattern by Camilla Vad. If the design wasn't so terribly beautiful, I would have already put it to one side. The pattern are faulty and the designer seems to be deaf in her ear - since you also offer the design as a knitting kit - maybe you have more chances there?
Enjoy the weekend and Mother's Day tomorrow, best wishes, Kirsten

Dear Kirsten, thank you for your praise! I'm glad I was able to inspire you! And I also have my eye on the Holger cardigan for my son ... 😉

Regarding the pattern with the Field Mittens: Sorry about that! We are very happy to pass on the feedback. I've just had a look at the Ravelry page: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/field-mittens-2 Perhaps the comments and project notes from the other knitters will help you at least for now. 🙂 I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be finished! Best regards, Sophia
