A wonderful good morning to my last post in the mini-series on knitting baby blankets. As promised, I'll show you my finished baby blanket "Kora" again today and tell you after my posts on the topic of material selection and stitch test now a few small details about the completion of a baby blanket.

Baby blanket knitting tutorial

If you are knitting a particularly plain baby blanket, you can embellish it with a special detail, such as a different colored border. My baby blanket "Kora" is relatively plain, with nine square beadwork squares. I opted for an I-cord border, which is a little elaborate, but all the more beautiful for it. The result is really great! On vacation I took a few photos to show you how I knit the I-cord border, from it I have made a PDF tutorial for you to download for free.

The most important thing to finish a baby blanket is to carefully wash and stretch it. Believe me, the work is worth it! The stitch definition becomes so much more uniform. You simply soak the whole blanket in lukewarm water in the sink. Wring it out and lay it on a large towel. Wrap it in this towel and run on the resulting roll back and forth to suck out the water.

You then lay the blanket either on carpet, or on such puzzle mats,as I use them for stretching (there are also in expensive at Knit Pro). You do not necessarily have to "stretch" the blanket properly, but you can simply pluck it gently and let it dry. I myself use such tension wires for stretchingand pin them with T-pins. But this is really not necessary for a baby blanket.

The tutorial for my baby blanket "Kora" is now available in my e-book store. You can also order the kit including wool at Woolspire. "Kora" consists only of right and purl stitches, so it is absolutely suitable for beginners. Only the I-Cord border is a bit more difficult, but also absolutely doable once you get the hang of it. The corresponding tutorial is also attached to the pattern.
