A wonderful good morning to Saturday coffee on this cozy cold October weekend at the beginning of the Berlin autumn vacations with many new knitting ideas for the winter. It feels a bit like before the next lock-down here in Berlin. I don't really believe that the schools will close again, but have been hauling home tons of material for the kids. Everything was given to them that might be needed in distance learning.

We have not booked a vacation, but just make ourselves comfortable at home. Seems reasonable. With lots of reading food and wool!

Winter yarn - Shibui nest

One of our newest additions I would like to introduce to you today in more detail: Nest by Shibui Knits. At 160m per 50g, it brings a very special structure: a "nest" of fine, contrasting wool encompasses the core of wool and alpaca. It can be knitted as a single yarn, as a double yarn or in combination with the other color-coordinated Shibui yarns. It has an optimal gauge of about 20 to 22 stitches per 10cm, knitted on 4mm needles.

Nest brings a small, fine and typical Shibui color palette. From white to gray, blue and various shades of red, everything is there.

I'll tell you very carefully that there will soon be a few little things from Shibui Nest and Silk Cloud, from the pen of a knitwear designer you already know. We are already looking forward to it, we were already allowed to look.

But you can already find really nice project ideas on Ravelry:

Because of the special structure of the yarn, designs made from "Nest" can also be very nice and simple without a pattern. Like the stole Mistral with pockets by Sivia Harding, which is knitted in two strands from Nest on approx. 5.5mm needles.

If you're in the mood for a quick little nest project, you could knit up Sivia Harding's "Sindi" loop. It is worked in three strands: One skein of Nest and two strands of Silk Cloud by Shibui. You need 2 strands of Nest (here in Ivory) and one skein of Silk Cloud in White, Ash and Graphite. Knitting is then done on 5-5.5mm needles.

I fell in love with this short poncho "Post" by Julie Hoover last winter. I am - as you know - anyway a big fan of Julie's stylish designs. I just have to confess that "Post" is currently a bit too "short" for me. But it is worked in parts from bottom to top and can be knitted longer. You can find the quantities on the Ravelry page of the pattern. Since we are really in the final stages of our preparations for our website move, we are currently refraining from posting too many new kits. On the new site, however, there will certainly be a wool package to "post".

So THIS color is already causing gasps in #teamblau, right? This is "Deep Water", which you can find in both Nest and Silk Cloud by Shibui. Both yarns are made into this "Prism" scarf stole by Shellie Anderson. I think it is gorgeous. "Prism" is also very plain in stockinette stitch, with a few lifting stitches. The interplay of the two yarns is enough to give this stole that very special something. You only need five skeins of Nest and three skeins of Silk Cloud.

Warm things for underneath and over the top - scarves and cowls

"Slip-on scarf" is probably the best term for this collar aka upper body warmer.

It is the "Cozy Cowl" from Anne Ventzel. Como and Premia from LAMANA you can process together great here. Presented by Anne Ventzel, whose beautiful designs and images have me hooked anyway, I immediately get that knitting-on heart palpitations that only knitters know. Karolin will have it on the needles shortly for our #maschenfeinesschaufenster. I'm already looking forward to it!

You will need about three to four balls of Como and two balls of Premia in the matching color.

The slip scarf "Ronja" for children you will find in our book, knitted by Carina from Cusco of LAMANA with a wonderful, effective braid. Goes very quickly, a nice gift!

For fans of multicolored knitting, we have discovered three entertaining designs made of Rowan Alpaka Soft DK for you. Sophia had already featured one of them on Thursday in our new blog article on the topic of multicolored knitting: Fair Isle and Norwegian Sweaters. In her article she tells where the tradition of multicolored knitting comes from. All three designs above in the pictures are by Martin Storey, a long-time Rowan designer. You can find the necessary amounts of yarn on the pattern page and the matching yarn in all colors here at our site.

On the ears - Five to one podcast

As big podcast fans, we are always happy about new discoveries in the podcast sky. This week we recommend the new Mitvergnügen podcast "Five to One" by and with Stephanie Hielscher. Five perspectives on one topic. In the first season Stephanie dedicates herself to outer space. I have already devoured all episodes and was particularly impressed by Gerhard Thiele's story about where his home really is... be sure to listen in, maybe it will hit you just like it did me.

.... in the coming week we also record a new episode of our Maschenfein podcast "Just one more row". With a new guest! Looking forward to it!

Current favorite accessories

Last but not least (before we make our little Instagram round through your projects) I show you here one of my currently favorite accessories: The zipper bag from Kaliko. I have them now in four colors and always carry at least one with me.

With a zipper you can close the bag, I use it mainly for smaller projects, in turn to store them safely in larger bags. Bags in bags... you get my point.

A small Berlin-based company handcrafts these bags using sustainable materials. The project bags are made of robust organic cotton (GOTS certified), dyed in Germany with low-pollutant synthetic dyes. The process is controlled and certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and is therefore environmentally friendly. The bags are lined with natural, unbleached linen.

Maschenfein knitting round

Now we turn once again a small round through the maschenfeine knitting round on Instagram. If you post your projects there, feel free to use the hashtags #maschenfein and/or #maschenfeinstrickrunde so we can find you!

Miss D is making rapid progress on her Pascuali Saffira bunny blanket. Allesnurmeins goes to the sea and is busy knitting the sweaters from my basics book.

Mareike aka Lillepige14 is also addicted to the sock hype and knits socks about socks, especially the Basic So cks and has the Laine Socks book ready, which you can wish by the way great for Christmas. If you want to read more about socks, hop over to our "On the Needles" blogpost from this month!

Katrin aka stricknirtak wears her Purlpe Coke Cardigan from a tutorial by Katrin Schneider. You can find the wool package here.

Manuela aka manuela_strickt wears her beautiful KIM Cardigan from Mohair Luxe. On this occasion I must also show you her beautiful OSAKA scarf right next to it.

Now we wish you a cozy, knit-filled weekend. Stay healthy!

PS: Our Maschenfein team has grown! On our "about us" page you can read more about the team and the knitters who support us.
