After I had fallen in love with a beautiful triangle shawl from Madelinetosh the other day and then also stumbled upon a super nice pattern, I went pregnant with a new shawl for nights. So when the yarn arrived, I couldn't wait to test the patterns.

Walker Treasury of Knitting Pattern MusterI really wanted to knit this cross pattern that I discovered on Instagram. It has now become a slightly modified version, in that the background (you see it with the blue crosses below) is striped. It's a little hard to explain if you're not in the pattern. On the one hand I wanted to avoid threads on the backside, because it should be a shawl and look nice from the backside and on the other hand I wanted to continue the threads of the different colors always on one side, which leads to the fact that always an even number of rows per color has to be knitted. Anyway: The cross pattern was fixed.

However, I don't want it to be a pure cross pattern shawl. I imagine that the pattern is interrupted by a knit of the same color. So I pondered in front of me, whether I should knit these wide colored stripes probably smooth or garter stitch?

So I asked my husband.

"Mmmhh, yes... nice" he murmured. Without understanding, but interested with effort. He could not share my euphoria somehow so at all. I, on the other hand, was completely blown away by the cross pattern and wanted to start immediately.

"Yes, which do you find most beautiful, the smooth knitted one there, or the curly knitted one?"

"Uh" uncomprehending look... everything looks the same, was written on his face. So "that one" (garter stitch) he would find better, the other (stockinette stitch) would look so self-knitted.

Uh.

Huh? Self-knitted?

I have decided in any case, you may be curious. I am in any case!

And poof with it to the RUMS.

I don't know if you feel the same way: A monthly review gives me an enormous boost of motivation, because I realize what I have created during this time. While you're so wrapped up in your projects and constantly come across new ideas in the dense network of inspiration on Pinterest & Co, you always have the feeling that you're hardly getting anything done yourself. Do you know this?

So today I'm doing an Insta review of September, maybe you'll like it too:

Maschenfein knitted on Instagram in September

1. at the beginning of the month diligently knit the brioche blanket.

2. finally photographed the autumnal spring scarf from Schoenstricken and sent Jessica the promised pictures. You can even see them in her store now.

3. spent a morning just alone at home and worked on a favorite cardigan to-be (but it will certainly not be finished this year, that will be a major project)

4. created two new designs for phone cases, some of you have already stumbled across it and have even ordered, whoopee! Actually, I have resolved to design this Spreadshirt store still beautiful. But that remains a to-do for now, because it only works with a lot of fuzzy programming and I don't get to do that - I knit too much, laugh! The top cover here is still waiting for a meeting with the recipient, wink wink, Lisa!

5. in between times tried a pattern, approximately according to these pattern.

6. about ten times ribbed the new cap model!

7. showed the basket from my birthday crochet workshop and was pleased that Ina from Pattydoo found the idea so nice that she also crocheted baskets with friends!

8. still knitting on the brioche ceiling.

9th pattern for the new Tosh cloth tested, I'll tell you more about that next week!

Great so a review! Give it a try!

Schwups, a month is around, many of you have brought out the needles, what I was happy that already last month here some have participated in "On the needles"! By the way, I love autumn and am very much looking forward to October! I love cozy cardigans, heavy scarves and hats. The smell of damp leaves, gathering chestnuts, the rustling underfoot! I'm not one of those people who only bring out the knitting needles when it really makes sense - when the leaves turn color and it gets cooler. Nevertheless, it makes me but of course even more joy when the finished projects immediately go on the head, around the neck or on the hands.

Knitting blog knitting projects in winter

Last month I knitted the brioche blanket. And I have many, many, well I mean really damn many times my new hat model ribbed. Finally found a perfect solution and I can not wait to show it to you in all its glory. You'll have to endure a moment of suspense, because behind the scenes the ideas are bubbling away! Then the eBook will go online together with a little surprise and I'm already so excited how you like this year's cap!

In October, I would like to hunt down a UFO. Yes, sir. Must be, nech? Namely, it will go to this beautiful scarf to the stitches, which should actually have been finished in August for a birthday and which unfortunately, unfortunately, when I realized a few days before, that will nix, first wandered into a project bag. So. It should be finished! In October!

On the needles - knitting blog - link party

However, so that I do not only UFOs hunt, I have allowed myself a new project. I call it times "Tosh cloth" and show you my pattern shenanigans soon in a separate post. Who looks very closely and has read very closely here, can then also recognize where I have jumped for this project the inspirations!

And now I am of course curious how it looks with you! What has become of the projects and what do you have this month on the needles? Will you tell me? You can link up the whole month long! Attention: You have to put a backlink to this post or blog in your post, otherwise it won't work with the link tool.

From Instagram, by the way, I use the hashtag #aufdennadelnoktober. Join in there too!

Ha! End of September and I actually have the blanket off the needles. Such a blog helps to actually finish the projects, laugh. Even the threads are sewn without having to wait weeks for them now.

Blanket in brioche pattern - pattern

I used the yarns Cashcot and Nobile from Lana Grossa knitted with a 5 needle, in the colors dark blue, light blue and orange. Quite a nice pop. I would rather look for other yarns for the next blanket though (read my article on "Baby blanket - which yarn?"). I don't like the knit pattern of the Cashcot. And the Nobile is nice and airy (because it's a summer yarn), but I don't really like the cuddle factor.

Brioche pattern knitting

But no matter what yarn, the blanket in the brioche pattern is great for beginners! It has a bit more feel and fullness than a plain or even curly knit blanket, but is still totally easy to knit! For a baby blanket you should choose approximately the dimensions 80x80cm.

Use a yarn for needle size 5mm, then you should get by with this number of stitches. Otherwise, knit a sample first and then calculate how many stitches you need for a width of 80cm. Here the number of stitches is X = 191. To follow the pattern below (X - 8) must be divisible by 3! Here (X-8) = 183 and 183/3 is 61, so it is evenly divisible, i.e. the pattern sequence is knitted 61 times in each row.

Pattern for a blanket in brioche pattern

So: cast on 191 stitches.

Then knit 4 rows of garter stitch, i.e. all stitches right side up. Then repeat the following pattern row until the blanket has reached the desired length. You can vary the color sequence as you like. For me it was: 2xdark blue, 2xlight blue, 1xorange, 2xlight blue, 2xdark blue.

Pattern row: 4re, * knit 2 stitches together, yo, cast off 1 st as for purl ** repeat from * to ** to last 4 stitches, 4 purl.

After the last pattern row, knit a row as follows: knit all stitches right side up, simply knit the wraps of the previous row interlocked right side up, i.e. knit in the back and knit off right side up.

Then knit another three rows of only garter stitch for a nice finishing edge.

Unchain and rejoice.

By the way, you can also find this tutorial as a PDF to print for free next to all my knitting tutorials.

The beanie days are getting closer. Last fall I hosted the beanie weather knit along. That was a lot of fun and out came a purple beanie hat with cable knit!

Knit beanie with cable stitch

I wrote down the pattern at the time, you can find them in the eBooks. However, the pattern is something for advanced, you should already be good and happy to handle the cable needle. Ours is now so worn out that a new cap must come. Let's see what color is desired here this year!

Knitting beanie with pom pom

It must definitely be a hat with pom-pom again! Do you have favorite hat designs that you want to knit this fall? I am happy about links that I can then collect on my beanie weather pinboard!

The spring scarf Knit Along of Jessica is already a while ago, but I had promised her to write again about the finished scarf. Finally, she had provided me with the wool "Mitte" (alpaca, silk, cashmere) to knit along with the Knit Along. At least a few days ago, there were also suitable temperatures here in Berlin again, the scarf is wonderfully cozy! I myself would never have come up with the idea to knit such a heavy wool in the Lace pattern, but the result is great!

beautiful knitting Knit along

Jessica hosts these so-called Mystery Knit Alongs from time to time. Over a certain period of time, more parts of the pattern are revealed each week and at the end you hold the finished surprise piece in your hands.

In this case, the scarf consists of 7 different Lace patterns, of which the very first I like best. Weekly there was then a pattern to it.

Schönstricken Shop and Blog

Thank you Jessica for letting me try your Knit Along! And I hop me this scarf to today's RUMS!

A few months ago our two god boys had a baby sister, which was the perfect opportunity to knit up lots of skeins of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino that had been waiting to be used here for a long time into a baby blanket. Some of you followed this on Instagram at the time.

Chevron pattern tutorial

It was going to be a chevron pattern and I started crocheting it. However, after a few rows I found that crocheted blankets just get too "tight" for me. The cuddle factor was missing - I'm just an old knitting dyke...

Chevron knitting blanket

I have tried a few things. The prongs are simply knitted by increases and decreases in the appropriate places. This in turn, of course, can be done in a variety of ways. With holes, without holes, with intermediate stitches, without, etc. That's how I ended up liking it best.

How to knit chevron pattern

The pattern are next to download in the eBook store! The wool Baby Cashmerino you can order in many online stores, just google and search desired colors! Alternatively, you can also find great yarns in my store, with which you can knit such a chevron blanket. Take a look at Sole with a slightly higher yardage. I am of course happy about pictures, if you knit it!

My goodness, such a blog launch is not for the faint of heart. When I gave yesterday on all channels the starting signal for maschenfein, I was crazy excited. And then so many visits in the first hour and also my new Facebook page have already discovered some *freu*. Now it goes on here of course. I hardly know where to start, so there is a little late the September "On the needles" post.

"On the Needles" is a monthly series I started over on Engelenchen and some of you have even joined in. I would like to continue this monthly (actually, of course, always at the beginning of the month). I find it super exciting to click through the other blogs and see what is knitted there. Maybe you'll even join in now in September and show what you're knitting this month and then we will certainly gradually a nice round!

I have in any case accumulated as a hopeless parallel knitter some unfinished objects and show you what I would like to continue knitting finished in September. A little pressure never hurts, after all! Maybe in a year we'll make a new series "Things that have been lying around here for a year" or something. Or we'll make a "UFO month" in which we knit all UFOs, i.e. unfinished objects, finished.

But now first to September.

Brioche knit pattern

So first of all there is a blanket in brioche pattern in blue and bright orange from Lana Grossa Cashcot and Nobile. Brioche knits itself wonderfully fast. However, the Cashcot is certainly not knitted again here, the thread is permanently twisted, knitting with it I feel a bit bumpy.

Beanie knit

I'm also busy knitting a new hat from Mia by Debbie Bliss, which I've been working on and calculating over the last few days. I'll tell you the story behind this hat when the time comes. It has something to do with Carolin and Martina. On Instagram I have already shown a little more.

What about you guys? Are you also hopeless or gifted parallel knitters like me? What's on your needles and what will be finished next? If you feel like it, you can link here or just comment.
