Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive is a beautiful silk mohair yarn. It is beautifully soft and available in a great range of colors. It can be knitted separately or used as a supplementary yarn to give your knitted piece the necessary fluff.
Responsibility
The wool for this yarn comes from Angora goats from South Africa. It is certified with the RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard). The yarn is also spun directly on site. The silk is also "violence free". This means that the silkworms can fly out of their cocoons first before the silk cocoons are collected and processed.
Knitting for Olive places a very high value on ethical, animal-friendly, sustainable, and environmentally friendly standards. Their yarns are chemical free, making them suitable for allergy sufferers and babies.

I am about to knit two different colors. What about discoloration?

Dear Marion,
We are not aware of any cases of this yarn being heavily stained. However, you should always be careful when washing a finished piece of knitting, as the yarn may bleed and discolor the other color. Wash in the sink and keep the piece of knitting in constant gentle motion. If the yarn bleeds, keep running fresh water until the water is no longer/barely discolored. Then it shouldn't really be a problem.

I don't usually knit mohair because I can't tolerate it (it's very grizzly on my face), but who can resist with this color palette?
I knitted it in narrow stripes in the sweater, so narrow that it does not gribbles (4 rows, double). It looks beautiful! And for mohair yarn it is very compatible.

I bought the yarn in the color Licorice. Unfortunately, it dyes already when knitting very and I have black fingers after a few stitches! Will buy a mohair yarn from another manufacturer and start over with it. Too bad!

Dear Antje,
staining is not a characteristic of poor quality. To dye dark colors, a higher concentration of dye is required. Depending on the yarn, excess dye then remains in the material. Especially dark yarns also dye off during knitting and still bleed properly when washed. That it is annoying to have constantly dark fingers, I therefore also know. You just have to be careful when washing the finished knitted piece, because the yarn can bleed more than usual. Wash in the sink and keep the knitted piece constantly in slight motion. When the yarn bleeds, run fresh water until the water no longer/barely discolors. This way the finished knitted piece will then no longer discolor.
