Description
BC Yarn - Tussah Tweed
Tussah Tweed from BC Garn consists of 100% tussah silk. Tussah silk is a so-called wild silk, as it is obtained from the cocoons of wild oak silkworm moths - which have not yet been successfully bred. The caterpillars are allowed to leave the cocoon before it is processed into silk, which means that Tussah silk can also be categorized as "non-violent". Typical of silk are its stability and its ability to enhance the brilliance of colors. For this reason, it is not only suitable for hand knitting, but also for knitting machines and for weaving and embroidery.
Attention: To dye silk in these deep colors a lot of dye is needed. So it may be that the knitted piece will bleed a bit when washed for the first time, or even stain a bit when worn. We recommend rinsing it in cold water before wearing it for the first time.
Responsibility
The yarn is spun and dyed in Italy. At BC Garn, the focus is on GOTS-certified yarns. Currently, 15 BC Garn qualities are GOTS certified and thus verifiably produced according to strict animal welfare and environmental protection standards. Incidentally, the GOTS seal is also a guarantee of fair trade to a certain extent, as criteria such as fair wages, occupational health and safety and working conditions, social responsibility and anti-corruption guarantees are also checked at all stages of production. BC Garn is currently working on two yarn innovations that are produced with non-violent silk, i.e. silk that does not require the death of silkworms.
