Rock Ruth
Whether you're at the festive table at Christmas, at Grandma's for coffee or on a leisurely stroll through town - with Rock Ruth, you'll always be stylishly dressed without having to sacrifice comfort. Who likes to wear clothes that pinch?
We certainly don't, so Marisa and Lisa have worked hard to bring you the perfect pencil skirt that's guaranteed not to pinch even after a slice of roast or too much cake and cuts a good figure!
Sounds good? Then grab your knitting needles!
Knit seamlessly in rounds from the waistband down to the hem. The drawstring for the elastic is knitted first and then the silhouette of the skirt is shaped by increases before it is finished off with the double-face cuff at the hem.

I never thought I would knit a skirt, but Ruth is so beautiful in the result and knitted up so great.
Thank you so much for the great pattern.

I am absolutely thrilled with the skirt! I've been knitting it non-stop for 4 days, it's great fun! The waistband looks perfect, and the whole knit is somehow so elegant and fine that I'm so excited that I'm already planning a second one. I'm halfway through and have been able to try it on, it looks great! I am knitting from a heavier merino yarn (105 m meterage) in navy blue (just like here in the picture). I think gauge is very important here. And I would knit the second skirt in beige tweed...😍

Dear Louisa, thank you very much for your answer. Nevertheless, I would like to ask again: why do you recommend a negative positive ease for the waist and a positive positive ease for the hips? Whereby the latter makes more sense to me, also in order to be able to sit comfortably. If the waist measurement is 83 cm, for example, the skirt should have this width and shouldn't be tighter, I would think - right? After all, you can still adjust it with the elastic band. But maybe I haven't understood something yet... 😉 Best regards, Eva-Marie

Dear Eva-Marie,
If you have a positive positive ease at the top, the skirt will wrinkle at the waistband and be baggy. The negative positive ease is only calculated to prevent the skirt from slipping. The elastic also keeps it in place. The knitted fabric itself is also stretchy.
I hope I've been able to make it a little clearer now.
Kind regards
Louisa

Such a beautiful skirt. I'm just very unsure about the size. Waist 81 and hips 92.
I knit very loosely. What could you recommend?
Would I also like to knit a sweater up to my hips in the same size?
Thank you very much for your support and the great suggestions
Best regards
Monika

Dear Monika,
I would knit a size 3. The knit can be wider again, if it is too wide, it may not be as pretty at the waist.
If you knit loosely, it's best to start the swatch with a smaller needle right from the start. After all, the swatch will tell you whether your skirt will fit later. So first knit the swatch, wash it and leave it to dry flat and then check whether the needle has matched the specified swatch.
You can also knit a sweater from Merino 120. The yarn has a great weight, you could actually choose any model that is knitted with a thin main yarn and a mohair thread.

Hello, a lovely little skirt! 😀 But can you explain to me what a positive or negative positive ease is?

Dear Eva-Marie,
How nice that you like our Ruth skirt so much and thank you for your question.
Sometimes you will find pattern that state positive ease or negative ease or a positive ease. This indicates how loose or tight the finished garment should fit. Here you first determine your correct measurements and then add the suggested extra width. As a rule, the measurement and calculation is based on the bust measurement. Of course, this doesn't make sense with Skirt Ruth, here you need the measurements of your waist and hips. If negative ease is specified, this does not mean that your knitted piece should end up being too small. Instead, the design is figure-hugging or a yarn is used that is stretchy.
Kind regards
Louisa
