When I started knitting (again), I first bought round needle after round needle in different strengths and lengths. For each project I needed a different needle size or other lengths of rope and quickly degenerated into a needle salad. At some point I bought my first needle system and a little later I ended up with the addiClick system. I'm a very big Addi fan because I'm absolutely convinced of the quality of the needles and I also find the company philosophy very appealing. Someday I would like to visit the factory, that would be something!

// What is a needle system anyway?

A knitting needle system consists primarily of needle points that can be attached to ropes of various lengths. The mechanisms are different, in the click system the needle tips are pressed onto the ropes and turned slightly ("click"). Then they are fixed. Now, when knitting a large shawl, if you notice that it is getting tight on the rope, you simply "click" the needle points onto a longer rope and knit the stitches over. Or you can lengthen the rope accordingly, which is also possible in needle systems.

The advantage is that you don't need 4 different round needles in 3mm weight (60cm, 80cm, 100cm and 120cm), but you can always combine the right tips with the right rope lengths.

// What do the click sets look like?

You can see in the picture above my three sets, below the bamboo lace set, in the middle then the lace long set and on top of the wonderful new olive wood set that I was allowed to test quite fresh from the factory already, because I have longed for wood lace already a year and a half ago when I presented the bamboo set for the first time here. Now they are here! I do not need more. I think anyway.

// And how does the addiClick set work? Do all tips fit on all ropes?

I am always asked how the click system works exactly and whether the olive wood tips also fit on the ropes of the bamboo set and vice versa. Therefore, I show you my three system times here in more detail:

Addi Click Needle Systems

On the one hand, you can buy the sets for the Click system, i.e. the small bags with several pairs of needle tips in different strengths, which then also include one coupling and three ropes each. Or you can just buy everything separately. The great thing about this system is that everything fits together!

So the three pairs of needles above are from my green bamboo set, the dark green olive wood set and the pink lace long set and of course fit all the ropes from the Click system. There are the gold ropes that come with the bamboo set and the olive wood set. Then there are the standard ropes in red and still red "SOS" ropes, which are a little hard to spot. They have a small slit just below the connector in the rope where you can thread a "rescue" thread and then pull it through the stitches while knitting. This is useful for complicated lace shawls or even my spring waffle shawl. If you make a mistake, you don't have to unribble the entire stitch, but can simply rib up to the last rescue thread, which then catches the stitches.

The "coupling", which you also see at the very front of the picture, is there to connect two ropes together and thus make them even longer. These couplers are available individually, but each set also comes with a coupler. Personally, I haven't used these clutches much because I don't knit such huge projects that they wouldn't fit on my long ropes.

// Why do I need different needle materials?

Yes, so I used to ask myself this question too and then learned over time that not all yarns with the same needles are equally fun.

Addi Click Bamboo

The knitting fun is about the feel and depending on the material, the needles feel rather cold or rather warm. Depending on the material, the stitches slip more or less. And also depending on the strukutr of the yarn you can have different preferences. The needle material can have an influence on the strength with which we knit and accordingly, of course, on the gauge, or the knitted piece itself.

Addi Lace Long Click Set

If you want to choose a click system, I would personally take the bamboo set at the beginning. But this can only be a very subjective advice, because maybe you prefer knitting with metal!

The olive wood system is the dot on the i. The needles are beautiful, beautifully pointed and knit really great! Even though I knit almost exclusively with it at the moment, I would still recommend the bamboo system to beginners or knitters who really only want to buy one system at first, because for me it is so in the golden mean. Bamboo slows down a bit, but not too much, doesn't rattle as loudly as metal and is simply beautiful.

Olive Wood Addi Click System Needle System

All tips and ropes you can also buy individually and thus try out before you buy the whole set. The most important accessories for the click system for me you can find of course completely in my store:

addiClick Bamboo - BambooClick SET and the bamboo tips individually.

addiClick Lace Long - Lace long Click SET and the Lace tips individually.

addiClick olive wood - the olive wood Click SET (comes out fresh in about two weeks), the olive wood tips individually are already available

Ropes - The gold ropes (various lengths) and the Basic Lace ropes in red (various lengths), the SOS ropes are also coming back.

Thank you a nice pre-Christmas season
Greetings Sabine

Hello Marisa
I have the olive wood set , does it make sense to get the lace long then ? Or are the tips the same
Thanks and greetings Sabine

Louisa

Dear Sabine,
the tips differ mainly in the material - they are similarly pointed.
If you prefer to knit with the olive wood needles, the metal tips are still worthwhile. Some yarns knit better with metal than with wood (and vice versa). It's just a different knitting. For example, I knit visibly tighter with metal needles than with wood.
Best regards
Louisa

Karin

The olive wood needle tips are really very nice! Unfortunately, the rope comes off the needle - what am I doing wrong???

Louisa

Dear Karin,
when you have put the rope and the needle together, you have to press them carefully against each other again and turn them. Then the fastener will snap into place.
Best regards
Louisa
