I admit it: I considered last week to postpone further winter knitting to the end of the year and start directly with the spring wardrobe. With 10 degrees and drizzle from diagonally in front, I somehow didn't really feel like cozy knitting. Minus degrees and powdered sugar snow on roofs and trees (some of you had real snow - how great!) have changed my mind again.

And so I'm sitting here now and could lose myself in all the beautiful winter designs. Aw, once again cuddeling on the sofa, with felt slippers on the feet and a warming knitting project on the lap ... You get it right: winter is back! Grab a coffee and let's go!

I don't see it! No, no!

Obba Sweater
How beautiful can a pattern be? Obba Sweater.

Jule did something very mean the other day. She put up a knitting kit for the Obba.Sweater from aegyoknit -.and.sent.me.the.link. Just like that. Seriously. How could she do that to me? She knew exactly how much I would love that model.

I'll get to my "revenge" in a moment 😉 For now, I'm content to just pass on the picture and facts on the Obba Sweater to you. Because maybe you find the design just as great as I do.

Collar with rolled edge

The sweater is knitted top down. The Fair Isle pattern is all over and: did I mention I think it's just lovely?! Anyway. The raglan increases shape the shoulder and finish the body and sleeves in the round. Special details include the small rolled edge at the neck collar or the faux stitching on the sides of the sweater.

With its large positive ease, the Obba Sweater can be worn by many sizes. You knit with Double Sunday and Tynn Silk Mohair from Sandnes.

As I mentioned earlier, I was able to directly counter Jules' seduction. Because I happen to know that she has a big weakness for round yokes with Fair Isle pattern. So it was literally destiny that I ask her - quite innocently of course - to put up a knitting kit on the Memory Sweater by Lene Holme Samsøe.

Honestly, I have to admit that I do have some respect for round yoke patterns. Not because I can't count (sure, my math skills are modest, but enough for that), but because two little people in the household interrupting my thoughts too often. Even when they're sleeping (the kids, not the thoughts).

So I'm more than tempted by the following descriptive sentence: "The Memory Sweater by Lene Holme Samsøe is a beautiful Norwegian sweater, but also super suitable for beginners. If you want to give stranded knitwork a try, this sweater is for you." Hello there! That's Lene speaking directly to me!

Knitted with Peer Gynt and Tynn Silk Mohair top-down in the round. So there are only knit stitches and - as Lene promises - only two colors per row. Ergo: no knotted fingers. Sounds good, don't you think? I think so too!

How are you actually doing with New Year's resolutions? Personally, I don't really have any, especially not in terms of knitting. "No wool until the current project is finished" has never lasted longer than the next team meeting. Same counts for "eat more healthy food." It rarely lasts longer than the next shopping trip or a look in the fridge after a too-short night.

Resolution I: Always beautiful wool at hand!

Hedda scarf
There's no getting around cable-knit patterns. How about the scarf Hedda?

So maybe I should just turn the resolutions upside down. For example, "Always spoil myself with beautiful wool." Ha! How does that sound! Like music to my ears, I'd say.

"Beautiful Wool" is a perfect match with one of our favorite yarn combinations at the moment: Merino Baby and Manada by Pascuali. You can find it for example in our stole Frieda by Marisa.

The same combo Birgit has used for her scarf Hedda. You can hardly or not at all get around cable patterns at the moment and if you ask me: completely right! Hedda consists of knit and purl stitches and a simple cable pattern. And since you knit straight ahead, it's the perfect project for in between, on the go or for me. Check it out!

Resolution II: color courage

Another resolution could of course be to leave the comfort zone sometimes in terms of color when knitting. Or in my case: to make it really comfortable in it.

Admittedly: Bold colors are not everyone's cup of tee. And it doesn't have to be. Of course, you can also knit Alma's neck by Milla Mia from Norway in muted colors. But if you're looking for a bright pink, you could go for the Alegria Grande Semi Solid by Manos del Urugay in combination with Silky Kid by Kremke Soul Wool. Jule and I had to dig a little deeper into the swatch and wool database, but luckily found what we were looking for.

You'll find more muted colors with the Bergamo and Premia combo from Lamana. Either way, the model is a great project for this winter and for fresh spring days. You knit from the back to the front. Finally, pick up stitches for the neckline and knit a nice high collar that does not allow cold wind to pass through.

Mouline Cardigan
Simple and timeless: Mouliné Cardigan.

In the Maschenfein team we are also big fans of layering. How about, for example, a cozy top - our favorites are the Home Camisole from Caidree and the top Cosima from us - over it a blouse, for out and about a knitted collar (How about the Terrazzo Neck?) and then a cardigan on top? Sounds like the perfect winter outfit to me!

You can now find a simple, timeless cardigan for example from above mentioned Lene Holme Samsøe. She recently published the design Mouliné Cardigan and describes it herself as the perfect addition to the closet. With this knitted piece you just always have the right cardigan at hand.

In the kit you will find Sunday and Tynn Silk Mohair - there should be something for everyone in the color pot. Knitting is then done top down. Start with the back piece, then pick up the stitches for the front pieces from the shoulders and work the fit. Under the armholes knit all parts together. Then pick up stitches for the sleeves and finish in the round. Voilá: Mouliné!

Maschenfein's favorite things

When I saw frost in the garden the one morning, I realized: I do not have enough knitted hats. And they are probably indispensable to the winter wardrobe. So I quickly asked around in the team, what are the current evergreens in the winter wardrobe.

Several things popped out and maybe there's something for you too! Personally, I am in love with the Hipster Hat of PetiteKnit, but I would also like to have the hat Frieda as an addition to my (still to be knitted) Christmas shawl. And the Last Minute Handwarmers are really quickly knit for warm hands.

New in the store

The current weather is - besides health-promoting walks in the fresh air, of course - also perfect for leisurely reading and browsing on the couch. For example, in the PomPom magazines that Marisa ordered. If you want to get in the mood for a colorful spring - this way!

I would also like to recommend the first magazine from Kremke Soul Wool. In Everyday Basics you will find six timeless designs for every day. Among them is the Linn sweater in Bébé Soft Wash and Marled Silky Kid. Perfect to wear as a jacket substitute in springtime.

New addition to the Maschenfein team

But I have to come back briefly to the Maschenfein team. Because something has happened again! Take a look at our about us page, here you will find an overview of all the great women who are strengthening the Maschenfein-Team.

Lisa, who supports Marisa in design development, and Judith and Barbara, who together with our freelancer Mirjam keep the front- and backend running as developers, are brand new. Because there is always something to do - online and offline.

Maschenfein knitting round

But of course Maschenfein would not be Maschenfein, if we did not have such an enthusiastic knitting community. Shared knitting joy is just double knitting joy (gosh, today I'm going to knock one out with my wisdoms 😉 ).

At Francesca 's and Dagmar 's you can see two fine knit designs. On the left the Seiser Cardigan (and the great September Slipover from PetiteKnit) and on the right the Snanoe Sweater. The sweater will be available very soon - thanks to Lisa and our hard-working test knitters!

Eva shows two headbands Ingeborg from PetiteKnit. Another design that you can easily accommodate this winter.

Ute has finished her mini Montrealer from Design by Delz. The godchild will be happy about that!

So, shall I tell you something? On Instagram, a follower recently gave me the tip to always knit 10 more rows or rounds on the one project and only then devote to a new or further project. I think that's what I'm going to do this weekend. First Kolding and then ... We'll see!

Have a great weekend and lots of knitting time!

Danielle

Hello dear ones,
wow I am in love with shock. This color, this pattern, waaa madness. Alma's neck has done it to me. But. Why only as a collar? I would sooo love to have it as a sweater with sleeves and everything. What am I going to do now? Who can help me now? Oh dear. 🫣

Sophia

Good morning Danielle! Yes, Alma's neck is really beautiful! On Instagram the designers wrote that they are also working on a sweater version. But it will take a bit longer, I'm afraid 🙂 But when it's ready, I will present the model in Saturday Coffee! Love and have a good start into the new week! Sophia

Katrin

Hello all,

no, I don't have a coffee, but I do have a tee, more specifically a cough and bronchial tee.

It's already better, but the second time this "winter" has caught me, the advantage: knitting goes ALWAYS. And so it's good to always have a small supply, then I also have for bad times what - because bad times are good knitting times. Often that is so, but sometimes (only very rarely) I'm even too bad for knitting, Tuesday, for example, was such a day.

Such a Norwegian is also still pending with me. I particularly like the CARDOON or also the HUMULUS - because not so colorful. But I still have a big problem with the color change. It always doesn't look good on me, then as a perfectionist I'm not satisfied with the result. So far I have embroidered patterns, but it is not the same.

I find the Obba sweater very, very nice and chic, I love herringbone.
Is Obba also knitted in a kind of yarn change technique (jacquard)?

Z. Z. I am still busy with HANNA from ITO and I can report to you, with my last results from this yarn I am extremely satisfied. Now I have also knitted HANA as a yarn not all by itself, but together with Piura Arte, to a westover (I personally don't like the word sweater) and will test how it works. I am still skeptical about the everyday wear characteristics.

In terms of resolutions, it's the same for me. There are no resolutions or there are always some, throughout the year. But now first get healthy, then stay healthy.

As for yarn purchases, I've already written something above, but my addition to it: since I keep "KnittingProjectBook", it no longer happens to me that I start things and do not finish, even if they lie for a season. Right now I have a half-finished sweater for summer from SOLE waiting to be finished, and I know it will be, because the last seasons it was like that, summer and winter. And I'm glad as heck that I always have a stash. (If one gets sick or the post office goes on strike or ...)

Here in Essen there is no snow, although announced, just usseliges knitting weather.
Love greetings Katrin

Sophia

Dear Katrin, thank you for your comment 🙂 The Obba Sweater is - if I see it correctly in the pictures - knitted with two colors in one row. Sure it takes some practice, but the result is worth it. I think the sweater is just great too! Maybe you practice the knitting with several colors otherwise first with stitch samples. Also good for beginners is the loop Encadré. I knitted mine with Milano from Lamana. Good luck and above all continue to have fun knitting and get well soon! Sophia
