A wonderful new year! And a wonderful good morning to this first Saturday coffee in 2023. I still have to get used to it, to the new year. 2022 just flew by so fast that I ended up being surprised again that a new year is starting. But there's also something good about it. Because I'm best at making plans at the beginning of the year.
Do you feel like joining in? Let's take a blank piece of paper together or open a free page in the bullet journal. And just think about what we could knit in the new year (of course, you can also finish ufos. Then you are just mentally stronger started into the new year than me ).
Knitting at the alp
When looking at the current "winter" one thing is definitely not wrong: a cardigan. You can put it on and take it off in no time. And you can wear it under a jacket or as a coat itself. An all-rounder, so to speak.
How convenient that we start at Maschenfein directly with such an all-rounder. From now on you can find the Seiser Cardigan - made on vacation on the alpine pasture of the same name - from Marisa's pen in our store. As a single pattern or super practical as a knitting kit. The stripes, dear readers, the stripes! I had a little stripe trauma since last summer thanks to Bobbie by Pam Allen, but sometimes the direct confrontation is very healing.
Yarn combo to fall in love with
Absolute favorite part of the cardigan is in my eyes the shoulder area. This fine seam, which goes there from the neckline over the shoulder to the upper arm - I predict knitting pleasure!
As we like it best, this model is also knitted from the top down. So you can easily adjust the length to your body size. I imagine for the spring also an almost ankle-length variant really cool. Whether spring 2023 or 2024 is in my case indeterminate.
We are also thrilled with the yarn combo Marisa chose. Double Cusi and one strand of Premia from Lamana. We haven't had enough Cusi on our needles lately, but it's such a great quality. 100% brushed alpaca makes for a great fluffy effect, which Premia makes even cozier and gives it more stand.
Start the Seiser Cardigan with an I-cord. Then pick up stitches for the back piece and shoulder seams and work front pieces, shoulder seams and back in rows until the length of the shoulders is reached. Under the arms, join the front and back pieces and finish with an I-cord.
Marisa owns the Seiser Cardigan in two color variations: one in rose quartz and anthracite and one in silk gray and navy blue. With Premia in navy blue we are waiting for supplies. It is announced for next week. You can already order, but you have to wait a little longer for your package. So there's plenty of time to look through the pattern and admire our new watercolor drawing by Stine. We are completely in love - it just fits perfectly to Maschenfein!
Whether long, whether short, a cardigan always goes
Another contender for an everyday favorite is the latest design by Rosa P.: The Piilo Cardigan is now available from us - either as a single pattern or as a complete knitting kit.
The top-down model also makes me dream of a vacation in the mountains, although I'm sure it will also look great on the beach or while strolling around town. I particularly like the sleeve end - the accentuated decreases are a nice eye-catcher. When knitting, you can decide for yourself whether you want a boxy shape or a classic version with decreases. In the kit you will find Como Tweed, also from Lamana.
Refined details
I personally take from last year my love for side slits in sweaters. Since the Kelly Genser from Sandnes was already so great (which is strictly speaking from 2021 ... lalala ...). The more I was happy when I ran across the Eun Sweater from novemberknits from Norway. Or fluttered me in an all-night in the timeline. But it doesn't matter: The main thing is that I discovered it (and above all saved it. You won't believe what I've already searched for "in this internet", because I didn't save it ...).
What I like about this sweater is that it is simple yet special. Of course, we've all seen a ribbed cuff before. But so high? And with a long slit? Sometimes it's slight variations and something quite ordinary that gets new momentum.
Knit the Eun Sweater top down, short rows form the neckline. In the knitting kit you will find Alpaca Fino and Manada from Pascuali. A real cozy and fluffy combination with which you can fight the dull January weather.
By the way, you get the yarn Alpaca Fino as a skein. So before you start knitting, you have to wind it. This is quite uncomplicated with a reel and a wool winder. Take a look here in our store - maybe one or the other gift card wants to be redeemed.
Recently I also got a very nice mail from the designer Astrid Augustsson from Luxembourg. I'm always very happy about something like that - because even if I make every effort and want to provide variety: it's hard to keep an eye on the entire knitting scene.
Reason enough to show you today the Bretagne scarf from Astrid. The triangle shawl houses both a stockinette part, and a graphic pattern with little popcorn bobbles (they're really fun to knit!). For her project, Astrid used Semilla Melange from BC Yarn. You can also find it in our store. You need six skeins. And if you don't find your favorite color: You can also use Como from Lamana. Here you need nine balls.
Knitting projects for children do not count on the knitting list
Who reads the Saturday Coffee and hears the stash (Who has such a thing?!) from the closet or wool basket calling: Do not worry, I have a solution. Children's projects (just like sleeveless tops) are by definition not new projects, or no stash growth (again: Who has such a thing anyway!?), because simply too few balls. Besides, such designs are knitted in no time, so the balls in the basket don't even notice that there was something next to them. And possibly watchful eyes at home don't notice either. #approved
Back to the point at hand (not that it will be said afterwards that at Maschenfein they only give tips on how to justify wool purchases): There is a new Sandnes magazine with children's designs. In it you'll find ten designs, all knitted from Sisu, Tynn Merinoull and Babyull Lanett.
Sweater, cap, socks - everything included
With the magazine you can equip your children or grandchildren or whoever else wants to be knitted, very well. So a little hat makes itself in the current wind and rainy weather always good and also a sweater you can finally wear well without a jacket over it. How about the Smiley Genser for gray Mondays or the Geo Beanie for carefree hours in the fresh air? I find knits for the little ones just so cute and with the right yarn qualities also not at all impractical. Especially the above yarns you can also wash gently in the machine. Simply test the right washing program on the basis of the swatch and then no one has to be afraid of everyday stains.

There is also a new hat from PetiteKnit. You can knit Weekend Hat for small and big. Worked from the bottom up, you start with the cuff in the rib pattern, to stabilize the edge, double knit there. When the double cuff is finished, the hat is finished with decreases.
We have created two kits for you: one with Double Sunday from Sandnes and one with Cashmere Worsted from Pascuali. Both yarns have their respective advantages: The softness and noble feel of Cashmere Worsted can't be topped, of course, but Double Sunday also wears beautifully on the head and has a wide range of colors.
I myself have been pining over the Agnete Cardigan since it came out. Knowing full well that my knitting time is very limited right now. And the list to start here is filling up more and more. But brioche patterns and v-necks always make me all fuzzy. Also, I need a replacement for my April cardigan when the time comes. I wear it up and down.
Agnete is knitted top down from Tynn Peer Gynt and Tynn Silk Mohair. The facing is worked in double knit. I like the grippy look. And I really like the new labels from PetiteKnit, too. So well, in fact, that I may have already ordered some. Eventually.
And anyway "new": Have you already discovered our new site navigation? You wouldn't believe how much work is behind something like this. But it was worth it and we are very happy that you can now browse the store even more precisely. If you notice any errors or have any other comments, please write them here in the comments or send us an email to "hallo@maschenfein.de".
Freshly moved into the warehouse is also the Big Bio Balance from BC Yarn. It consists of 55% virgin wool and 45% cotton and is suitable for many projects - even children's items are easily possible with it (washing in the machine but please only in the gentle cycle). Knits from the Big Bio Balance can be worn super at room temperature - how about for example the Whiskygrandpajumper (supplemented by Silky Kid) or the Sille Slipover Mini?

Maschenfein knitting round
Is your knitting list already well filled? Maybe still with ideas from last year? I had many plans for the time between the years. Very many. I have implemented only a fraction. But I ate more cookies than planned, but you always have to stay flexible.
Looking at our knitting round-up, I definitely saw that you guys found time to knit every now and then - and with very different projects.
Judith, for example, has been working on her Smilla Sweater by Anne Ventzel in Heavy Merino and Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive. The pattern is so great!
Stinezeug has started the Christmas shawl Frieda - in the variant from Como. There are also waiting for me a few balls and I'm looking forward to knitting!
Lena is destashing (so this stash must exist after all ...): She knits Kinu and Sensai of Ito into the Long Shadows of Ankestrick. That's on my list, too. Well, on the pre-2023 list. But I could well imagine it moving over.
And finally Kristin has the Moby Sweater Man from Peer Gynt by Sandnes on the needles. The "only" thing missing are the sleeves. But it already looks mega, I think.
Aw. So my list is already well filled again. But of course I still have space. It's just the beginning of the year and the inspiration will continue, of course! For now I wish you a nice weekend with lots of knitting time!

Great ideas I like very much, snappy and chic.Keep up the good work.Good time.
Oh, the Seisercardigan is beautiful. But I have to think about it a little longer, because the price for the yarn is already a house number.
I wish you all a healthy new year.
I also still wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. 🍀😊🥰
Good morning
