Description

Nomadnoos - Eri Khullu 6-ply

Eri Khullu 6-ply by Nomadnoos is the best of all worlds: Fine yak wool from the super soft undercoat of the hardy beasts of burden meets non-violent silk. What is eri or non-violent silk? In the otherwise commonly used mulberry silk, the silk cocoons are boiled before the thread is unwound. In the silk used here, the caterpillars are allowed to hatch before the cocoons are further processed.
The yarn is handspun and in bulky weight. With big needles are super fast results with it.

Responsibility

Nomadnoos' yarns are created in the most remote regions, their journey begins in Mongolia. Here, collaborations have been established with herders whose mixed herds consist of yaks, camels, sheep and goats. By buying only fiber from animals that do not damage the pastureland, the herders' habitat is secured. Nomadnoos buys the noble fibers directly from the shepherd families. Then the raw wool is sent to Ulaan Bator for washing and combing. A water recovery system ensures that the environmental impact is as low as possible. Once a sufficient quantity of the highest quality fiber has been collected, it is sent to Nepal, where it is spun into fine yarns by finger-skilled spinners in Kathmandu. All yarns are also dyed in Kathmandu using environmentally friendly dyes. This is how the typical Nomadnoos colors are created. The workshop in Kathmandu also has a water treatment system, so that the water here is also used several times. Spinning generates a regular daily income for the team members of Nomadnoos in Kathmandu and thus contributes significantly to improving the quality of life. With these yarns you can not only create something incredibly beautiful, but you support people and regions that maintain a long and living tradition of wool production.
