{The Saturday coffee with a difference}
Good morning to the first Saturday coffee of the year! It's a little different this time - but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to inspire you right at the start. After all, you shouldn't run out of ideas!
I hope you had a good start to the new year, enjoyed the holidays and had a relaxing knitting session or two. For this Saturday, I've grabbed my colleagues and asked them to share their knitting plans with you and me. So make yourselves comfortable - maybe one or the other project is something for you too!
PetiteKnit is also very popular at Maschenfein
I remember how Louisa casted on the Moby Sweater from PetiteKnit. But sometimes things just turn out differently than you think ...
I'm planning the Moby Sweater from PetiteKnit for 2025. In 2024, cables and textured patterns were everywhere. And I think it's so pretty. So pretty that I already cast on the Moby Sweater in January 2024. But since the half back part, it has become an UFO. You just have to concentrate really hard so that no mistakes creep into the detailed patterns.
But I really wasn't the right frame of mind for that this year. The year was very challenging and I needed a lot of mindless knitting on big needles with quick results. But I'm slowly getting the feeling that I can tackle something more challenging again. The Moby will definitely become a favorite sweater in my closet!
Lisa is certain: her new knitting project has to withstand the wind and weather of the coast.
The coming knitting year is also all about Nordic elegance for me. After I finished the Zipper Sweater light from PetiteKnit in the fall, it quickly became clear: This is me. That's what I need. That's what I want. Robust and solid. I find the wind up here on the Baltic Sea just far too cold. You have to counteract that. By any means necessary.
Braving the cold wind
For the light version, I knitted Peer Gynt from Sandnes in one thread last time. To speed things up, this time I'll be using a thread of Tynn Silk Mohair.I'm not yet sure what color the zipper sweater will come in. But one thing is certain: I have to stay true to my black-blue-grey color scheme. That's what my heart tells me. Light gray would also be nice ... or really stylish in dark blue ... But quick decisions are another thing for me. I could think about it for weeks. Maybe I'll just let you decide when the time comes!
You can already tell ... even in the Maschenfein team we can't get past the designs from PetiteKnit!
My knitting plans for 2025 are already very concrete: I made myself a cloud-soft Christmas present, the Cloud Sweater from Petite Knit. It was very popular with the knitters last year. After the hype when it was released in January, the love has never cooled - the Cloud Sweater has always trotted along like a little unicorn alongside the new, more "dramatic" designs.
I like the exaggerated simplicity and the rolled edges, they bring in something playful and unintentional, I really like that. Can I handle the mohair? I was allowed to feel Mirjam's September sweater (which is really, really beautiful 😍) and will give it a try.
Incidentally, I always get a little fright when someone says "ego strikk". For me, making my own garment by hand is more of an exercise in patience and humility. And hehe, a friend and mother with a vacation face from relaxed knitting who has cozy hugs to give - I don't think it's ego!
Sometimes the decision is difficult
Jule quickly changed her mind shortly before submitting the text. Because something new has arrived in the knitting sets ...
My knitting plans for 2025 are not quite set yet. There are soooo many great designs and no sooner have I decided than something new comes along. The Nomad Jacket from Wool & Beyond has just caught my eye. It's such a cool cardigan, and thanks to Peer Gynt and the great honeycomb pattern, it's also a really heavy jacket for outdoors. I can best imagine it in Almond Tweed.
There's also another cardigan that I've been lurking around for a while - the Kullavik Cardigan from Rilleruth. It's very long and I've always wanted a long cardigan to snuggle up in. But of course that would also mean a lot of purl and knit rows ... hmm, can I bring myself to do that?
Sometimes there is a knitting design that has been on the wish list for a long time. Judith, for example, has had her eye on something for a while ...
In 2025 I would like to knit myself the Henri Cardigan by Johanna Böhme aka kolibri by johanna. I've been lurking around it for a while (years!) and while other cardigans come and go, this one is a constant on my wish list.
I particularly like the geometric beaded pattern, the wide sleeves and the spring-like feel. Now it's just three months to decide which color and then I'll be ready to go. 😉
Oh, I really feel what Sandra says! Sometimes it's like a spell and you don't get to knit as much as you'd like.
I don't know what I'll be knitting in 2025. I'm letting myself drift and don't have a list that I'm working through. As my knitting output has been very sparse in recent weeks due to illness and still is, and I miss knitting a lot, my knitting goal is clear: I want to be really fit again in 2025 so that I can pursue the most beautiful hobby in the world more.
But one thing is certain: whatever it is - it will be blue. 😉
Our working student Charlotte is already on another continent at this moment. But: the most beautiful hobby in the world also connects people across oceans!
My knitting plans for next year are not yet set in stone - my wish list is long, and new ideas are of course constantly being added. At the beginning of January, however, I have an exciting time ahead of me: a four-month semester abroad in Canada. How much space will I have left for wool in my luggage?
So for the flight itself, I want to play it safe and only take one small project with me. The Sophie Scarf from PetiteKnit has been on my list for a long time and seems perfect for traveling: handy, uncomplicated and hardly takes up any space in my hand luggage.
I'm not yet sure about the project that will follow, but the Dagmar Zipper Sweater from PetiteKnit is still on my mind. I've been tempted by the idea of knitting a sweater with a zipper for a while now, and with -20 degrees predicted for February and March, it could be the perfect companion for the cold days.
A project that also appeals to me is the Nordic Mix Sweater by Laura Dalgaard. That would really be a challenge.... As you can see, I will certainly not be short of ideas in 2025.
Chris from our support team has quite a lot on her list. She has been part of our team for a good six months now and has quickly realized that her wishlist of things to knit is getting longer and longer ...
I really like making plans and so far I've been able to stick to my knitting plans pretty well - I'll just say "gauge month". But since I joined Maschenfein, a new idea keeps popping up. So my firm goal for the first few weeks of 2025 is to quickly knit a sleeve here, a neckband there and finish a shawl or two.
As soon as the project bags are empty again, the Port Jacket from Ozetta Knitwear, Sweater No. 24 from My Favorite Things Knitwear and - with the Cabana Sweater from Cheryl Mokhtari - the first spring project are already waiting for their swatches. But I'm sure there will be a few more spontaneous knitting ideas in between. And actually, the nice thing about plans is that you can throw them over again at any time.
I have about 52 and a half project ideas myself 😉 But I'm afraid I'll have to put the knitting designs for myself on the back burner for now. Someone else has expressed a need:
As I'm writing this blog post, I've added all sorts of lovely things to my wish list in my Maschenfein customer profile. That's terrible!
However, a project for my husband is right at the top of the list. He's been waiting for a knitted sweater for a very, very long time and I think the time has come this year: he wants Justin's flannel from Alicia Plummer. With 5 mm needles, he also has a chance of finishing it 😉.
I definitely still want to knit a sweater myself. The Sailor Soft by Anne Ventzel is right at the top of my list. It's high time I knitted a design by this great woman!

I think the Cloud Sweater is really, really beautiful, so simple and still looks great.
I also really like the Nordic Mixed Sweater, but do I dare to try it? I think I'll wait for your experiences first.
Unfortunately, you always give me such great suggestions that I can't even make up my mind🤩
LG and keep up the good work!

Hello,
I would like to knit the Collin Sweater Junior for my grandson.
He is 10 years old and the chest measurement is 90 cm. Can that be right? His chest measurement is 65 cm - well, he is very thin but that would be the size of a two-year-old.
Can you tell me if these sizes are correct?
Best regards
Cornelia
Dear Cornelia, the measurements are correct. But I wouldn't just stick to them, as they can only provide a rough guide. Our tip: Measure a well-fitting sweater for your grandchild and stick to these measurements or choose the right size based on them. Also, don't forget that the sweater will fit a little looser - so a certain amount of leeway is desirable. If you can, your grandson can also try on the sweater in between. As it is knitted from the top down, this is not a problem and you can check whether the fit is good (although the sweater will of course change a little after washing). I hope this helps you! Otherwise, please send us an email to "support@maschenfein.de" - we'll be happy to help you! Best regards, Sophia
