September is an important month in the fashion magazine world. September Issue is the name of the issue that covers all the important trends and is always more comprehensive than in other months. I don't want to be so presumptuous as to compete with the big names in the industry - but fashion (especially) has a lot to offer in terms of knitting. So welcome to our September edition of "On the needles".
This month, the Maschenfein team is once again telling you what's currently being knitted or is in the project basket. It's our very own September issue, and without any The Devil Wears Prada airs and graces (still a great movie, I think!). Have fun reading!
Our (no longer quite so) new colleague Chris has left the gauge month of August behind her and is now devoting herself to knitting clothes. In any case, we've already infected her a little: multi-thread knitting is great!
I'm sure it's old hat for many of you, but I still have those "WOW" moments when I knit my Sommerknus sweater in Organic Cotton with the matching Deluxe Silk Mohair from Krea Deluxe. The fleece gives the supposedly rather 'boring' smooth cotton a completely different and, above all, so beautiful feel! And the stitch definition - just great. Why did I wait so long to start knitting with brushed yarns? It opens up a whole new world of knitting for me.
Another project I'm really enjoying at the moment is the Storm Sweater by PetiteKnit from Peer Gynt by Sandnes. I wonder if it will be finished in time for my Scottish vacation ... we'll see!
If love needed a name for more robust wool yarns - "Louisa" would be way out in front. My editorial colleague has long been a fan of Icelandic Ístex yarns and luckily we've had them in our store since the beginning of the year.
There was simply no other way and I had to put a "small" project in between. When it was so hot all the time, I found it very uncomfortable to knit the merino yarns for my projects. Suddenly, Álafosslopi from Ístex was calling out to me from my closet. I could actually let the robust Icelandic wool glide through my hands really well despite the heat. Temperature-regulating at its best!
And so I slipped a Gudrun Jacket by Camilla Vad in between for the anticipation of fall. With needle size 6.5 mm it went really quickly. It has already been washed and I have also sewn up the threads. Since then, the cardigan has been waiting for me to sew on the buttons and cut off the thread remnants. A very tedious process 😉
It's really summery again at Jule's at the moment. For World Granny Square Day - you know, the cool crochet squares - she saw a great pattern on Ravelry. And created a matching crochet set for Maschenfein. And ...
I'm currently working on my vacation project, the Miradouro Top. On the occasion of Granny Square Day, Sophia and I were looking for some cool ideas with granny squares. It was simply love at first sight. The set is sooooo great that I quickly had to change my mind for the vacation. The delivery with Petunia from Rauma arrived on the day of my departure and so I am crocheting my way through our tour. Best wishes from Switzerland at the moment!
And Sandra has some more summer impressions for you. Vacation feelings are the best!
For the first few days of September, I knit a little bit of summer into my Ship Shape made of Kinu and Washi from ITO: the Greek sun, the sound of the sea, the gentle breeze brushing against my skin, which is slightly chapped from the salt water ... Knitted pieces from vacation are always something special for me, because every time I wear them, my thoughts drift back to faraway places.
When I get back and fall arrives, the yarn on my needles is sure to quickly become warmer and fluffier again.
Ready for fall?
Lisa has pretty much the complete opposite on her needles at the moment. Our "northern light" is helping us with our design work, which is why she often has Maschenfein projects on her needles. In this case, however, ego knitting is the order of the day:
After only a few months without Peer Gynt by Sandnes on my needles, I just couldn't stand it any longer: It had to start! Now! Here, now! In the north we say: 'What goes around, comes around.'
Now the sleeves of my zipper sweater from PetiteKnit are almost finished and I want to sew in the zipper before finishing the body - that will motivate me to finish the rest very quickly. And then fall can come - I'm (almost) ready!
Mirjam is woolly, albeit less robust than Peer Gynt. She is working on a project for her little daughter:
Even though it's still very hot outside and I can still wear my Margaux top from Gregoria Fibers, I've switched to fall/winter knitting. First up is finally(!) the Jarah Cardigan from Knitting for Else for my daughter - when I saw the design, I knew I had to knit it: So I ordered some wool and - bang - it sat in various baskets and travel bags for four months without being knitted. That has now changed. And despite the small needle, it's easy to knit and I think there's a good chance that my daughter will soon be able to wear it on her way to daycare in the morning.
Suddenly emerging projects and a small preview
I'm really stepping on the gas at the moment. In terms of knitting. And of course it doesn't work out equally well every day, but I have a little problem ...
A Maschenfein package with new wool is on its way to me. Is my current project - the Olga Sweater from PetiteKnit - already finished? Of course not. But I tempted myself with last Saturday's coffee and ordered more Line from Sandnes for Tiril's summer sweater. That's how it is with the beautiful knitting ideas from Saturday Coffee!
Judith - or rather her son - is definitely well prepared for the fall. I wish I was that good at preparing for the next season!
I slipped in a hat during my vacation that gave me a surprising amount of pleasure. The Hipster Hat by Petite Knit made from Double Sunday by Sandnes Garn accompanied me on our hut tour in the Alps this year and was worn on the mountain. My son wanted the color Electric Blue, which immediately puts him in a good mood, I think. He also chose the photo motif himself and I should ask you if you can find the 'mistake' 😉.
And finally, I have a lovely teaser for you - because Marisa is currently working on a Maschenfein design for the coming winter. Of course, she can't do without cashmere ...
During my trip to New York, I got a surprising amount of knitting done - which is probably because I was only traveling with the big kid. While waiting at the city's hot spots or enjoying a cozy movie night, I worked diligently on the Brevue Sweater made from Cashmere Classic by Cardiff Cashmere and Premia by Lamana. The combination is a dream and this piece is sure to become a winter favorite. And of course I'll have the pattern for you!
