August - a wonderful (late) summer month, when some people are already back in their everyday lives and others are just starting their vacations. Either way, there's always knitting going on at Maschenfein. What do we have on the needles in August? You can find out today - as a little substitute for Saturday coffee. I'll be serving you your coffee again next weekend!

But before that, I want to show you what my colleagues - and myself, of course - are currently working on. As usual, I have asked for interim results. I often write that the result is a colorful mix. But this time ... see for yourself:

Pink, embroidery, stash building - now they're finally going crazy!

Baby knitting at Sandra's (but not for Sandra!).

To start with, I have a "shocker" for you. Sandra is surprising everyone today - I promise!

Yes - I'm knitting pink! After I recently picked up a crochet hook, I'm now also getting unfaithful to MY color... well, not really, because as you can already guess, this project is not for me.

The foundation for this was laid back in 2012. Back then - Maschenfein didn't exist yet - I knitted this jacket and hat set for a friend's baby and when my son's godmother looked at the set, she said: "If I have a girl one day, I want exactly this set!". A few weeks ago, little Emilie was born and I immediately looked for the old magazine from which I had the pattern. Phew - seperat pieces ... I definitely didn't want to do that to myself anymore and quickly converted it to seamless top down.

The jacket is still missing the tie ribbon, which is threaded through the holes at chest height, and I still have to work a few centimeters of moss stitch on the hat before the decreases are knitted in stockinette stitch.

For the yarn, I chose Merry Merino 140 from Kremke. And because it's so cliché, I chose a soft pink (even though there are colors for everyone - yes, I know).

Instead of two needles, Jule only uses one. And it's also much smaller, thinner and sharper. What's going on? Our expert for maintaining products at Maschenfein embroiders!

I am currently working on an embroidery project. It will be a wreath of flowers with a name for a child's bedroom door. I need more concentration for embroidering than for knitting, but it's also great fun. The pattern is the wildflower wreath from Embroideryloversteffi. Of course, we also have everything you need for embroidery!

As you know, I'm particularly good at prioritizing and working through my knitting projects. Not. Which is why I fell over before the pattern were even published when I first saw the maschenfein Perla cardigan.

... but how could you not be swayed by this simple and beautiful model? The design, which Lisa Marisa helped with, is simply perfect for warmer temperatures. Fresh in the morning? Perla cardigan! Clouds are gathering at midday? Perla Cardigan! Lingering on the terrace in the evening? Perla Cardigan!

When the - as I call it - lovable batch of Perla yarn from Lamana came up for discussion and soon went on sale, it was clear to me that it would suit me. So now I have eleven "faulty" balls of Perla in Rose Quartz at home and am looking forward to a great knitting experience!

Finished projects and gauge discipline

A finished knitted mininata by Judith from Milano by Lamana.

Judith shows you a completed project this month. Because joy shared is joy doubled! And a finished mininata is also a great source of inspiration. The little shawl is quick to knit.

I haven't shown you my maschenfein mininata yet - and I want to make up for that now! It's more or less a "war on needles project". I chose Milano from Lamana in the colors carmine and navy blue. The shawl is as light as a feather, just as soft and still keeps you warm. My son took to it straight away: We had just been to the Baltic Sea and it wasn't cold enough for a heavy scarf, but the little knitted piece was just perfect to protect him from the whistling wind.

Good planning is half the battle. That's what they say, isn't it? Chris likes to plan and, as a gauge fan, fits in perfectly with our team.

August is traditionally my swatching month (as is April, by the way). I plan and think about what I would like to have on my needles and in my closet in the coming months. This time it's particularly exciting because there are actually still a few yarns in the Maschenfein range that I've never knitted before. But of course, there are also a few favorite yarns for beautiful, cozy hiking sweaters.

To recover from all the planning, I am continuing to knit the Lotti shawl. I turned it from a Mother's Day shawl into a birthday shawl for a great friend. I'm knitting the large version with Pinta from Pascuali in the color Cloud (123) and love this catchy pattern of knit and purl stitches. It's a wonderful way to think about other project ideas for my knitting list. There are simply far too many beautiful designs.

Colors, yarns and designs to make you feel good

Margaux Top by Gregoria Fibers at Mirjam.
Photo: ©️ Mirjam Guderlei

Mirjam is also moving away from her color scheme. But she doesn't leave her comfort zone with this beautiful teal.

Alongside various other WIPs, the Margaux top by Georgia Fibers from Morning Salutation by Kremke has recently jumped onto my needles. Like Sandra, I don't follow my actual color scheme, but I think this shade of teal is great - it always reminds me of the sea.

Louisa tells us what happens to her when a project is supposedly too boring. Of course, we don't know anything like that and it would never happen to us ...

It's been a while since I posted the Villa Wrap by Anne Ventzel from Skadi by Hey Mama Wolf. As so often, the following happened to me: The beginning went quickly over the needles, despite various ribbing actions - the construction was just too exciting. Well. And then I joined the good piece under the sleeves and now have to keep working straight in the pattern for a relatively long time. At this point, another project tends to sneak in between. The yarn can still have such hand-flattering qualities as Skadi. In this case, the Olga Sweater from PetiteKnit with its seductive stripes slipped in between, which is already finished 😅.
But I know: I will knit the Villa Wrap in the coming weeks as a cozy side project without any time pressure. Because just in time for the start of our summer vacation, this year's maschenfein Christmas shawl has landed on my needles. And of course I can't show it yet 😇.

Three times Sophie Scarf from PetiteKnit at Barbara.

Barbara obviously doesn't need much to feel completely at ease: A little cashmere and a fantastically catchy tutorial are all she needs. We can feel that, can't we?

I've just had to rest my eyes a little after work, so I'm now showing the piece that you can knit in your dreams:

A Sophie Scarf from PetiteKnit for my friend Sophie (long promised!), one for me (sigh) and one for my big girl 🥰.

Cashmere Classic from Cardiff Cashmere comes here in the colors Memphis, Christobal and Zen - and you can see how my little scarf has become fluffier and longer from wearing it. I haven't even washed it yet, I just couldn't wait to get it around my neck on one of the cooler summer evenings!

Maria

Dear Sandra, thank you for the explanation, which encourages me to give it a try. Best regards

Maria

Hello, thanks for the Saturday coffee, I always look forward to it. This time I got stuck with Sandra, who converted an "old" knitting pattern into single pieces and then knitted it top down. I still have some "old" patterns. How do I convert them to knit top down? What do I need to bear in mind? Kind regards, thanks for an answer

Sandra

Dear Maria,
phew... that also depends a bit on the pattern. In my case, it was a pattern where the back and the front pieces should have been sewn together at the shoulders. So I started with the back and cast on the number of stitches that the back would have had in the pattern when casting off, then I knitted the back piece backwards to the pattern up to armpit height. The decreases in the pattern are to be worked as increases.
For the front pieces, I picked up the number of stitches from the cast-on back stitches that the front pieces should have according to the pattern when casting off and also knitted the front pieces backwards to armpit height according to the pattern.
Then I put the stitches for the back and both front pieces on one needle, joined them and worked the body backwards to the pattern again. At the end, you should have the same number of stitches on the needles and cast off as the total number of stitches cast on for the back and front piece(s) in the pattern.
For the sleeves, I cast on the number of stitches indicated in the pattern from the edges of the armholes and worked the pattern backwards again, i.e. instead of increasing in the pattern, I decreased.
This worked wonderfully for this pattern - but depending on the construction, it may not be possible to simply work the pattern backwards.
Kind regards
Sandra

Hello, which color number was used to knit the Margaux top?
Simply super

Dear Susanne, Mirjam has chosen the color 18 - Indigo 🙂 Best regards! Sophia

Hello, I've almost finished the Lilli Tube, the material is a bit hard on my wrist and I have to take a little break after two rounds. But it's only 22 cm high, so that's no problem. I'm looking forward to it when it's finished :) I want to sew a gym bag into it as an inlay so that I can close it. And "on the side";) I am knitting the Hor no 16, but it still "needs" a bit, as the yarn is so thin

Tatsiana

Good morning ☕, very pretty things have been knitted here! Oh, knitting is beautiful 💖.
Personally, I've been thinking for three weeks about what knitting projects to take with me for 12 days of vacation. Just today I finished Kumulus Tee-O-Neck ( from Pure Silk by Knitting for Olive). And two items have the honor of going on vacation with me: April Cardigan from Petite Knit and a Kumulus Tee-O-Neck (#2). I'm knitting the first one today from Cashmere Premium by LangYarns together with Lamana Premia (bought here in the store a few weeks ago). And the second one I'm knitting from a merino-silk yarn (in a matching color to the cardigan) that I bought in a wool store in the neighboring village. I already have stitch samples in front of me, the knitting basket is filled with balls and needles, notebook and accessory bag: so I am the happiest person on earth!!!!
With this in mind, I wish everyone their own personal knitting (and other) luck and a lovely weekend!
