{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}
What a week! If you think of Maschenfein as a beehive, this week has been really buzzing. Everyone has been hard at work, everyone has been focused, projects have been completed (little cloth book), restarted (Instagram videos) or improved (flyers for an event - shh!). Plus the "day-to-day business" with everything that goes with it. Marisa also packed boxes - you can find out more below!
A wonderful good morning for Saturday coffee, which marks the end of this wild week. A moment to take a deep breath, pause and look back on everything we've achieved! Make yourselves comfortable and enjoy reading!
Mini scarves - maximum Maschenfein!
Last week I told you that we were keeping our fingers crossed that the delivery of our new book Mini Tücher - Maxi Chic would arrive at the warehouse on time. The universe was kind to us and: You all bought away within a few hours. 😅
We reordered immediately and expect the subsequent delivery in the warehouse shortly. So have a little patience! Unfortunately, the first printing was already sold out, but we were able to get hold of one last slide and a reprint is already in the works. But what makes us really happy is that you were looking forward to the book as much as we were.

Of course, you can also find the matching knitting kits here. I've been looking at them for over a week now and wondering which one I should knit first. Marisa had a lot of the small Cali shawl around this week, but Melli - the small version of our last Christmas stole - was also at the start. And at a very special moment - when we visited the new office. But more on that in a moment ...
What I like so much about the sets is that the shawls are all made from yarns that we love so much at Maschenfein. Como Cashmere from Lamana, Pinta from Pascuali, Brushlight from Cardiff, Sensai from Ito ... the list goes on. As the shawls are small, less material is needed. On the one hand, this is helpful for knitting speed, but also for your wallet. You can knit beautiful shawls without having to compromise on quality.
I don't have an absolute top favorite - I think several of the shawls are beautiful! If you ask the Maschenfein team which one they would like to get on their needles first, the answers are also multi-part. In addition to Melli, you can also look forward to Lumina (big sister here: the ever-popular Luna shawl). But Salmi, Salma 's little sister, is also chic and Mollimi will make everyone happy who loves stripes and a curved shawl shape. Still undecided? You can find all the knitting sets on this overview page. And I've written even more about the mini shawl trend in a matching inspiration.
The fact that the book has now been published is a real milestone for us. We have been working on it since last summer - especially Marisa, Sandra and Lisa. Even though most of them are small versions of existing designs, they are not just smaller knitted shawls. All three have invested a lot of brainpower and attention to detail, adjusting increases and decreases and modifying repetitions so that the mini versions fit just as beautifully around the neck as their larger siblings. As always, our graphic designer Stine has created some lovely sketches - chapeau, dear colleagues, you've achieved something!
Even more small knitting projects
You can also get the knitting sets from the new Sandnes children's collection from us this week. I am blown away. Quite apart from the fact that I'm now really looking forward to warmer temperatures, I can see my children in my mind's eye with some of the outfits.
So the set of Pascal shorts and the matching shirt have already gone into my shopping cart. After the son has chosen his desired colors, of course. In both cases, I knit with Mandarin Petit from Sandnes.

In addition to shirts and shorts, you'll also find cute tops and dresses in the collection. For example, I really like the Clementine Top from Tynn Line by Sandnes. The linen blend yarn has become one of my favorite summer yarns: It wears great and can be machine washed. What more could a mother want? Exactly.
With this design, it's worth taking a look at the details: the sleeve edges and straps are knitted at the end and bound off with a crochet hook. This gives the finish a particularly high-quality look - after all, why should children's clothes only be practical? It can also be a bit chic! Personally, I would always wear a T-shirt under such tops for my children. But these styles are also perfect for this.
Now please look away!
And then something else bad happened this week. I started to take a closer look at the Sensai colors from Ito. And combining them. Five, to be precise ... Naaaa, who can guess what was going on?
That's right! I've seen an Osaka - at Marisa's! She found hers while packing boxes in the old office and was very happy about this chance find.

You all know what an Osaka is, don't you? Don't you? The simple scarf with block stripes is actually knitted in stockinette stitch back and forth. Actually. However, some time ago we switched to simply closing the scarf in the round and then knitting only knit stitches. The suggestion once came from the Maschenfein knitting round - we're still fans!
The Osaka is the perfect take-along project for anyone who doesn't like knitting socks. You knit up ball after ball and end up with a soft and cozy scarf that is perfect for spring. I got mine out of the drawer again and am now pretty sure that a second colorway is needed. You can find Marisa's colors and other ideas in this inspiration.
Goodbye, old office - hello, new possibilities!
Marisa can't remember exactly when she knitted the scarf (except that it took longer - a take-away project!). But it's also a sign that so much has happened in the past few years. During Corona, for example, Marisa moved from her home office to her office in Bergmannkiez, Maschenfein has expanded and continued to grow.
And now? It's time for the next step. The office is empty (except for a mirror) and the new one in Moabit is waiting in the wings. The kitchen and furniture are still missing, but still: I'm tingling again. In addition to more work space and the opportunity to meet up in Berlin to work, the premises now also offer space for workshops with you, for example. It's still a very loose idea - but we're holding on to it and want to keep working on it. Stay tuned!

Who will we meet in Cologne and Berlin?

Photo: ©️ Louisa Müller-Gauditz
To make sure it doesn't take too long until the next reunion, some of the team will be meeting up next week in Cologne for the h+h trade fair. As usual, this trade fair is only for specialist retailers. Nonetheless, we'll of course be taking you along via social media and I'll tell you about it in the Saturday coffee (in two weeks' time, of course - the next one is a little preview ;-)).
If any of you should be there: Feel free to talk to us! We are always happy to see the faces from our knitting community "in real life". There will also be a small event for our book launch at lunchtime at the stand of our wholesaler Plus-H. Oh - I'm really in the mood to travel!
Another specialist meeting will take place the following week - the K5 Female Circle in Berlin. The event brings together over 30 inspiring speakers. Topics such as leadership, AI, community, diversity and self-empowerment will take center stage - and Marisa will also be there to share her knowledge and experience of building our brand and our wonderful knitting community. If you are a retailer and are interested in attending the event: Tickets are available on this page.

Maschenfein knitting round
This week's knitting session is dedicated to our shawl book. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our test knitters - we couldn't have done it without you!

On behalf of everyone, today I'm showing you a picture of Sibel, who knitted the Demilia shawl from Kosho and Sensai by Ito, among others. The braids are a real eye-catcher on this triangular shawl.
Milena has knitted the Paul Scarf from Cashmere 6/28 by Pascuali twice. The design was a gift for Paul's birthday last year (he is the founder of Pascuali), but because it is a mini shawl, it has also found its way into the book. And rightly so! By the way, the individual pattern are still available.
Be sure to tell me today which knitted mini shawl makes your heart beat faster. In any case, we look forward to seeing lots more photos of our shawls soon. I hope you enjoy browsing and have a wonderful weekend with lots of knitting time!

Dear Maschenfein team,
I ordered the book last week and immediately ordered the wool for the Cali shawl. I've been lurking around the shawl for several weeks and am always wondering whether I should spend the money on the Kashmir version or the cheaper Snefnug version. I actually prefer large scarves. But the booklet is simply great. As I said, it arrived last week with the wool for the Cali shawl. I have lots of projects at the same time and didn't want to start the shawl until another one was finished.
Well, you know how it is, don't you? The intention was good, but unfortunately it didn't last. What can I say, I knitted the shawl in one day, have been wearing it every day since then and already know that I want to knit the large version in the Kashmir version. Thank you for so many beautiful ides.
Dear Karen, oh - thank you so much for your feedback! Of course we love to hear it! And who isn't familiar with the problem of prioritizing knitting projects? 😉 On that note: keep knitting and having fun with Maschenfein! Best regards, Sophia
Dear Maschenfein editors,
I've been waiting for your little book since the beginning of the year and pre-ordered it from the local bookshop, so I already had it in my hands on Wednesday. It contains very inspiring projects that immediately appealed to me. As I'm not a great shawl knitter because I simply don't have the stamina for it, I'm sure it will be a mini shawl. Unfortunately, I'm still working on my winter project from last October 🥲.
A double-patent sweater with hand-dyed wool that was already partially sewn together. I'm not normally used to sewing raglan seams together. I have always knitted them in the round. Now, although I am slim, the sleeves were too tight and so were the raglan seams. Deeply frustrated, I first considered using underarm gussets, like on a Gansey. In the end, I unraveled the sleeves and am now knitting them in the round up to the armpit. Then I will unravel the front and back pieces and finish everything together as a raglan from the bottom. Maybe I'll make it to the end of March? I really want to hold out, otherwise the sweater will end up as a UvO. After that, it's time for summer knitting, which I'm already really looking forward to.
Best regards
Jana
Dear Sophia,
I expect your little cloth book to be in my letterbox today, I'm really looking forward to it.
Then I'll probably cast on Lemira soon - I love stripes!
And yes... the Osaka, I've always wanted to knit that too...
And then, as a Berliner who now lives a little further out but still commutes to Berlin for work, I'm looking forward to the new Maschenfein office with (maybe) workshops taking place.
Best wishes to the whole team!
Susanne
Hello dear Maschenfein team,
I have rediscovered knitting after almost 30 years. But I will probably continue to be a beginner when I see your knitted items. Nevertheless, there are enough simple designs. My question: Are the designs Lumina and Mollimi also included in your book Minitücher?
Keep up the good work with your suggestions and helpful tips on the net.
Kind regards, Regina
Dear Regina! How great that you have rediscovered knitting for yourself. And yes: the shawls are also in the book! You can find an overview of all the shawls here: https://www.maschenfein.com/produkt-kategorie/strickkits/?swoof=1&pa_kits-maschenfein-buecher=buch-mini-tuecher-maxi-chic&really_curr_tax=129-product_cat Best wishes and happy knitting!
