{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}

There's always nothing more unpleasant for young people than when older people take over youth speak. The nice thing about getting older is that you don't care. Which is why I have no problem at all with the motto of this little coffee party being "knitting rules" and thus bringing a rather youthful expression into our knitting cosmos. Because: no matter what problem arises - knitting is good and helps!

I wish you a wonderful good morning for Saturday Coffee, which once again offers you plenty of inspiration for your next knitting projects and defies the mixed early summer. Knitting just works! Make yourselves comfortable and enjoy reading!

Bouclé rules with

It is - as usual - bad. While I continue to knit the Mother's Day shawl Romy (I promise you won't have to read this text entry from me from mid-June at the latest), events are coming heavy and fast.

While I already had to add the (hopefully to be released this summer) stitchfine Brevue Shirt to my yarn stash of three to four projects (cough), the Fluffy Fleece Vest by Johanna Reus aka Knitmitjo suddenly came around the corner.

Not just for the winter

I admit: at the beginning I thought I could really resist it. After all, it's full spring (at least in terms of the calendar) and the list is already full anyway ...

... but then I've already looked at my colleague's contributions for "On the needles - June" (the blog post will be published next week) and three (!) of them write that they are going to knit this vest. Uh, hello?

Now, of course, my curiosity is piqued! You knit the vest from the top down. The cut is wide and casual - so you can also wear it over a sweater. It is knitted with the bouclé yarn Teddy Dear and the edges are worked with Woolia. Both yarns are from Gepard.

Attention - a must-have for your closet on the way

The vest also fits my current mood and the general weather situation. It's got everything! And as I said at the beginning: knitting works. Even the mixed weather. Instead of just knitting tops (you know, the three or four projects I have planned), I also sometimes think about cardigans. Because they really always work, because "layering really does take care of everything".

The COOMO cardigan from ANKESTRiCK is just what you need and it's right up my street. It is knitted from the top down in stockinette stitch. A special detail is the V-shaped construction at the neck of the cardigan - be sure to take a look at the other pictures in the project. And as the name suggests, you are working with Como from Lamana. I really don't need to say anything more here: you simply can't go wrong with it. So: get to work on the cardigan!

Let yourself be seduced

I also realized once again this week how incredibly fast my colleagues from the backend are. As soon as Louisa and I ask for this or that knitting set for a particular design that we want to present at the beginning of the week, they are already online. And even more! That's why I can't keep the following designs from you:

The Dew Drops Scarf by Lisa Hannes is something for everyone who has finished Romy but is not yet ready for an equally large shawl (I'll just say "Middle Earth"). The scarf is just under 150 cm long and is knitted from one tip to the other with a lace pattern. We recommend Lima from Lamana. Thanks to the silk content, your model will have a beautiful sheen.

Small shirt, cute top

I see the Ida Tee Junior from PetiteKnit at lots of summer parties. The summery shirt is available in sizes from one to ten years and is also suitable for children (aka robust) thanks to Duo by Sandnes. It is knitted seamlessly from the top down. If you want the mini-me look, you can find the knitting set for adults here.

You can conjure up a knitted top for yourself with the MY SIMPLY TOP from NORgardknitters. Here, too, you work from the top down. As an alternative yarn to the original, we suggest Løvetand from CaMaRose. This pure linen yarn is worked as a warp yarn and has a slight sheen. Unfortunately, the light ivory shade is currently sold out - but how about natural or silver?

Linen again

Rike aka rosa P. has chosen a rich red for her pattern piece: You can find the knitting kit and the pattern for the Uukii shirt in our store from this week. Studio Linen by Erika Knight is used here; a viscose-linen blend yarn that is particularly suitable for "linen beginners".

Knit seamlessly in stockinette stitch from the top down, starting with shaping the shoulders using the contiguous method. This type of construction is special (but still very easy to work) and ensures a really good fit. The ends are finished with rolled edges.

It was nice!

Last Saturday we also held our first big maschenfein offline event - and it was mega! Together with knitmates, we invited you to a movie at the Astor Filmlounge in Berlin and around 150 knitting enthusiasts came along.

Of course, we know that Berlin is too far away for some people, which is why we are already putting out feelers for the next locations. Louisa, Sandra and I are already planning carefully - are you on board? And if you're curious to find out how such a fine-mesh movie presentation actually works, you can watch our video here.

Knitting for a good cause

Knitting is always fun - and it's even better for a good cause.

I also came across an appeal on Instagram the other day: The association Space Lama e.V. wants to knit the longest scarf in the world and wrap it around the Bundestag - to set an example against violence.

You can use wool from the stash as well as wool provided by Lang Yarns. In both cases, simply write a direct message to the organizers - you'll get all the information there.

Maschenfein knitting round

This week I have chosen blue impressions for our walk through our virtual knitting round. That was a coincidence, but it fits in nicely with spring. I'll take you with me:

Sandra has kicked into high gear and is currently knitting the aforementioned Brevue shirt for you. The idea popped up a few weeks ago with Marisa, found its way into our podcast Nur noch eine reihe and things took off from there. Thanks to Sandra there are now also pattern, Lisa is grading and soon the test of this Arctic PearlSuave summer piecewill start!

The second blue picture is from Sewtje, who is currently working on the Grape Tee by Anne Ventzel. The combination of Tynn Line and Alpakka Følgetråd from Sandnes is light, but still warms you up a bit on fresh summer days. Looking at the spring so far, that makes a lot of sense to me!

I'm trying to discipline myself now and not look at the Pascuali color charts. Instead, I'm crocheting my braids on the Mother's Day shawl. But then it's off to all the lovely summer knitting. Have a lovely weekend with lots of knitting time! And always remember: knitting works!

I love the grape T and many other designs by Anne Ventzel. They are just "cool" - but unfortunately I live in an area of the world (Virginia, USA) where the thought of alpaca in a summer shirt is just ... not so good. Our humid, warm, hot summers don't allow for it. Do you have a recommendation for the second yarn in the Grape T that could replace the Alpakka Følgetråd? I have to admit that the feel of knitting with the linen alpaca blend is great.
Many greetings from the other side of the pond.

Dear Petra, wow - how great that our little coffee is also read in the USA! I've passed your question on to my colleagues and will include it in the next coffee if we find something suitable 🙂 Best wishes and keep having fun with Maschenfein! Sophia

Hello Maschenfein,
I've also heard and read about the idea of "movies and knitting", but I can't really imagine it. I like going to the movies and I also like knitting. But when I go to the movies, I want to be quiet, and when I knit with others, there's a lot of chattering and chatting. Somehow the two don't go together, or I'm already too old for that.
Maybe it's more for the younger generation.
I could imagine the new "BAMBI movie" as a knitting movie, beautiful forest pictures and the narrative voice of Senta Berger, would be something for young and old.

I'll ask my knitting friends what they think of "movies and knitting", the idea has made me really curious, I'm thinking about how to combine the two.
Best regards from Conny

Good morning dear team, I would like to thank you for the lovely contributions and great ideas. I always look forward to the Saturday Coffee.
Now I have a question: "Can you recommend a video where I can learn how to knit from the top down, especially the difficult parts?
I have been knitting for a long time, but always from the bottom up. I have successfully knitted a sweater from the top down, but starting with a round yoke.
Unfortunately, my attempt with raglan failed.
Best wishes from the Saarland
Andrea

Sabine

Hello Andrea,
that's a good question. I haven't knitted a sweater for a long time but I would be interested in knitting one from the top down.
