{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}

I'm packing my suitcase and take with me ... You probably know the feeling when you have a few free days ahead of you and you think: So now pack two books and three knitting projects and something you've always wanted to try - and you've got all the ingredients for a successful break from everyday life!

Feeling caught out? Then I've done everything right. My vacation starts this weekend and of course I have more than one knitting project with me. I only have two books, if you don't count the phrase book. I've also packed watercolor painting utensils, because as you can see from the list so far, there's certainly still time for art moments on the beach. Oh yes, the kids are coming too - I forgot! Good morning to the last Saturday coffee before the summer break. Make yourselves really comfortable again and enjoy reading!

We need a lot of knitting time

Seville Blouse
Right up my alley: Sevilla Blouse from PetiteKnit.

When I go to Denmark, of course I can't miss it: jack-of-all-trades PetiteKnit. We probably won't run into each other (Jeg skal bo i nærheden af Sønderborg, Mette!), but we are naturally connected in spirit.

That's why one of the new designs is - once again - right up my street: in my opinion, the Sevilla Blouse has everything you need for summer 2024. Long sleeves, but a summery yarn combination (here Line with Tynn Line from Sandnes).

Knit from the top down, starting at the back, which is worked in rows. Pick up stitches at the shoulders and shape the front section with short rows. Everything is then joined under the arms and worked in the round to the hem. I particularly like the boat neckline. Add a pretty necklace with a pendant that falls loosely over it and my summer outfit for this year is complete.

Scandinavian flair for the closet

And of course we also ask ourselves how exactly PetiteKnit actually does it. A life with five (small) children, an office and her many patterns. But there is something special about people who are surrounded by a certain mystique. And when great designs come out of it for us to knit: Who am I to keep asking questions!

That's why I really want to show you the Cloud Tee. It complements the Cloud range of sweaters, blouses and tops and is a beautiful, simple knitted piece that will bring Nordic elegance and down-to-earthness to your closet.

Here, too, knitting is done from the top down. If you want a summery look, go for the knitting set with Tynn Line from Sandnes. This is a cozier and more elegant option: Mette's example model is knitted from double Compatible Cashmere from Knitting for Olive - in this case in the color Cream. Of course, there is a huge price difference between the two sets (animal fibers, especially cashmere, are simply more expensive than vegetable fibers such as cotton or linen), but it would still be difficult for me to decide - both yarn suggestions have something going for them!

Less plain, more eye-catching

Busan Tee
Definitely the eye-catcher: a cable in the middle. Here on the Busan Tee from aegyoknit.

Of course, not everyone likes purist designs like I do. So it's good that there are so many knitting patterns - there's something for everyone! If, for example, you like more variety when knitting or simply want an eye-catcher on your finished knitted piece: take a look at the Busan Tee.

This model is also a further development of an existing design: do you remember the Busan sweater from aegyoknit? With its high collar and cozy oversized cut, this piece is definitely made for cold temperatures.

But it would be a shame for the cable if it only adorned a heavy sweater. So Karoline took another look at the pattern and adapted it for a short-sleeved shirt. As suggested by the designer, we have included Løvetand from CaMaRose in the set, a softly shimmering warp yarn made from 100% linen. The processing makes it softer than other linen yarns - although they all get softer with wear, but the knitting pleasure should not be neglected! The Busan Tee is knitted from the top down.

Cables are definitely an issue

As you can see, there is so much more than just "stockinette stitch". ChrisBerlin, for example, also has a design with a central cable in its portfolio. If you've subscribed to our newsletter, you've already found out more about it this week.

I simply had to make Placa our "favorite of the week" because I like the implementation and choice of yarn so much. You knit the sweater from the top down. Thanks to the yarn choice of So Asa (linen, cotton and silk) and Kinu (pure silk, both from ITO), the model is perfect for this year's summer.

Of course, the cable is the eye-catcher here too, but technical details such as short rows at the neckline add further variety to the knitting. So feel free to browse through the colors! If you need help with the compilation, you can reach us as usual via "support@maschenfein.de".

Yarn technology in summer mode

So Asa cover picture
A linen blend yarn: So Asa from Ito.

With So Asa from ITO, the third linen (blended) yarn has already found its way into this little box. The fiber is also simply made for warm temperatures. Obtained from the stems of the flax plant, the fiber is later spun into yarn. For us knitters, it's a case of "get on with it yourself" from here on in. Seamstresses or the textile industry naturally go one step further and wait for the weaving stage to obtain lengths of fabric.

In any case, linen only has advantages for the summer. It is hard-wearing and robust, has temperature-regulating characteristics and dries quickly. The only thing is that working with linen can sometimes be tedious because the yarn, for example when it comes in its pure form as with Lino from BC Garn, is very grippy and therefore does not go through your hands like butter. But (!) it gets softer with every wear. So take a look at our linen yarns and of course the matching knitting sets. I have already preset the filter for you: You can find the right knitting ideas here. But beware: you might be tempted to knit it yourself!

Secure your lovable batch now

I have to put it this way: you guys are crazy! No sooner had we reported on the missing batch of Perla from Lamana last week than most of the skeins were gone again. So you seem to like the announced pattern for the Perla Cardigan as much as we do. Meanwhile, more and more finished pictures of the cardigan are trickling in to the test knitting group and Lisa is tightening up the pattern. It will be ready at the end of July!

So if you've already secured your Perla and would still like to get your hands on the discounted lovable batch, there are still stocks of the colors basalt blue, nutmeg and sage. Due to heavy rainfall in the Peruvian cultivation area, there were small, partially visible fiber inclusions in the material. These are sometimes visible, but do not affect the quality of the yarn.

We are currently calculating nine to 15 balls for the cardigan, depending on the size. This figure is not guaranteed because not all testers have finished yet. So if you want to be on the safe side, it's better to order one ball more or have a look at the other knitting sets with Perla. In any case, I now have eleven balls at home and am really looking forward to starting knitting!

It'll make you all go wild: quite rightly, I'd say! Perla Cardigan from Maschenfein.

Another important note

There will be no Saturday coffee for the next three weeks. But then it's back to business as usual!

Before we get another can of inspiration from the Maschenfein knitting round, an important note: As I wrote above, my vacation starts tomorrow with three knitting projects, two books, watercolour painting utensils and hopefully lots of sand under my feet (and in the toy bucket, of course!). So Saturday coffee is taking a little summer break. It will resume on August 3 with "On the needles" and then from August 10 onwards with the regular Saturday coffee!

Until then, you shouldn't be completely without reading material, which is why I'm once again recommending the summer Saturday coffees from previous years and, of course, our themed worlds. Whether it's summer tops, summer scarves or knitted favorites for the warm season - there's plenty to browse through!

Maschenfein knitting round

If you have Instagram, you can of course always check out what the rest of the knitting group has on their needles in their free time. I've picked out something for you again this week.

In addition to the Perla Cardigan, the maschenfein Sea Silk Top will be released in July. Here Katharina is taking care of the pattern and test knitting. On the photo you can see Petra's version. It is knitted with Pure Silk from Knitting for Olive.

Kathi is delighted with her first home-knitted top: Camisole No. 4 from My Favourite Things Knitwear has become a little classic and was made here from Merino by Knitting for Olive.

You can discover a wonderful - as she herself says - life project at Lisa's: my colleague from the design team is knitting the Lola dress by Sandnes for the second year. The floor-length model from Line by Sandnes requires a little patience, but it's worth it!

Everything.chic is home-knitted and home-sewn. Not only are there diaper pants for the grandchild, but also Olive's Wrap made of Merino from Knitting for Olive. I love it when children wear things they have sewn or knitted themselves. One of my son's friends has a cardigan that her mother wore as a child. The sleeves and body have since had to be lengthened, but the knitted piece is still loved. How beautiful can sustainability be?

With this in mind, I'll now send you off into a hopefully lovely summer weekend. I'll see you here again in three weeks! Until then, I wish you a wonderful vacation, a great summer and - of course - lots of fun knitting and browsing!
