{Saturday Coffee & Net Talk}
This week has been ... wild, I'd say. So perhaps a quiet start to Saturday is particularly good, or what do you think? So for my part, I suggest: We can't change some things, but we can pick up our knitting needles!
Have a wonderful morning for Saturday coffee at the end of this crazy November week. I promise you: In this little coffee, the mood is good, the atmosphere cozy and the ideas well thought out. Is this something for you? Then make yourselves comfortable and have fun reading!
Your enthusiasm makes us happy!
Last Saturday Coffee, I introduced you to this year's Christmas shawl, the Elli stole. And your enthusiasm was ... enormous! We have received so much lovely feedback on this design, in the meantime the first colors were already sold out, but we were able to organize supplies for almost all of them. You still have a great selection!
I have some great news for you right here: You can now see even more color suggestions in the menu above the color selection. At the beginning we "only" had the colors of the samples (white, beige, brown and blue), but Sandra went back to the color cards and picked out more color combinations. So whether it's a beautiful dark red, a bright royal blue or a classic black - you're spoiled for choice!
Our alternative suggestions
Over the course of the week, we have often been asked about a possible alternative for the Brushlight yarn from Cardiff. There is no one hundred percent suitable replacement, but you could knit with Midnatssol from CaMaRose or Organic Brushed Alpaca from KAOS Yarn, for example. However, you should note that the color families of these qualities are completely different from those of the second yarn in the Elli stole - namely Como from Lamana.
Of course, you can work wonderfully with contrasts. But if you still want to be "harmonious", you can take a look at Lamana. We also like the pure alpaca yarn Piura or the merino-cashmere yarn Milano. Here you will always find a perfect match in terms of color.
However, it is important to note at this point that we have not tested Elli with the alternative suggestions mentioned. We are happy to help you calculate the quantities, but the knitted fabric will behave slightly differently to the original. However, we like all the yarns mentioned - each has something special about it.
Santa Claus is coming soon
You will receive the complete pattern for the stole next week Friday (November 15) at the start of the corresponding Knit-Along. So you can knit your way comfortably through a (hopefully less crazy) Advent with this beautiful shawl design.
However - and I hope I'm not catching anyone off guard here - St. Nicholas (or Christmas itself, of course!) falls at this time of year. It's always a bit surprising how quickly December and its little and big secrets suddenly approach.
I would therefore like to recommend our Santa Claus and Christmas stockings to you again today. The absolute advantage: you cast on large needles and make rapid progress. Some designs are also felted, which is always fun and produces a great result. I am planning another edition of the Christmas Stocking model from PetiteKnit - including a matching leather hanger, of course.
As you can see, we can no longer avoid knitting for Advent and Christmas. But to be honest, I don't want to. I just really feel like decorating now. Looking for happiness in small things! I'm not planning to make all the presents myself (for God's sake - I do have a bit of sense!), but a Santa stocking here, a pair of felted slippers there and maybe a crocheted pendant or two - who knows!
Immediately on fire
Gloves, for example, are also a wonderful gift! Cold feet, cold ears, cold hands - nobody needs that. So it's all the better that we can knit ourselves up from head to toe.
At the same time, you know that I think Anne Ventzel's designs are pretty much always beautiful. So there was no question that I would show you the Robinia Mittens . I loved the pattern from the very first model in the series (those in the know will remember the Robinia sweater) and gloves are a wonderful addition.
We have created the knitting set with Peer Gynt from Sandnes for you. The pure new wool yarn with only Norwegian new wool is more robust, but I can imagine using it for gloves in particular. Another advantage: the color palette is very extensive, so you have lots of great combination options.
New hat from ChrisBerlin
The matching hat is not (yet) available, but how about combining the Robinia Mittens with the Tritrack model from ChrisBerlin? This design is so beautifully simple - it fits wonderfully into any wardrobe.
The cuff of the hat is double - so warm ears are guaranteed. As a small highlight, you can add three stripes to the hat - we have added the extra ball of yarn as an option. The hat is knitted with Como Cashmere from Lamana, which contains 30% cashmere in addition to the already soft merino.
A cozy sweater still has to go
And as this year inevitably draws to a close, I have also started to reflect on what has happened in terms of knitting. A definite highlight: my conversation with Cheryl Mokhtari, which appeared on the blog in the summer.
The Londoner was (and still is) just so incredibly likeable and her designs always really get me. One of her latest designs is the Cambersands sweater, whose wide cable pattern is reminiscent of sand dunes. We have created the knitting set with Kosho and So Kosho from Ito. So you are knitting without mohair here - an option that is often requested. Instead, both yarns are made from virgin wool and cashmere. The sweater is knitted from the top down.
Little things for Santa Claus and co. and a new podcast episode
Are some of you still hanging on to your Santa stockings? I totally understand! And are some of you thinking about what you can put in them for yourself or another knitter? I understand that too! I have put together a small selection for you above. Whether it's cedar wood balls to protect wool and finished knitted pieces, a fresh round of stitch markers or a beautiful wooden needle gauge - little things make us all happy!
This week we also released a new podcast episode. Marisa and I sat down together and talked about the Christmas shawl, other colors and possible alternative yarns. Marisa also tells you about the upcoming new Maschenfein designs: you can look forward to the Brevue Cardigan next week. Subscribe to our newsletter - then you won't miss a thing.
Sneak peek at a new Maschenfein hat
During the photo shoot, I also "caught" Marisa knitting a new hat. The Cashmere Light yarn from Lang Yarns has long appealed to her, and hats are always a nice side project - so why resist? 😉
Due to the weight of the yarn (Marisa is knitting with needle size 4 here), you can also make quick progress. As of now, you need three balls. And of course the boss has made a few notes so that we might soon have a pattern for you. We also recommend the great, shorter circular knitting needles from Chiaogoo. They are ideal for knitting smaller rounds.
Maschenfein knitting round
Today I have brought two test knits for our knitting group that are currently in progress or almost finished. So you can start thinking about what your next project will be ...
Emlule28 has finished her Brevue Cardigan. She knitted the version with Cashmere 6/28 and Mohair Bliss from Pascuali. Como and Premia from Lamana were also tested - both versions work perfectly!
Sibel, on the other hand, is knitting the Marie Cardigan for Miriam Walchshäusl. Como Grande from Lamana is used here and I think the model is really, really beautiful even in its unfinished state!
For now, I hope that I've recharged your knitting inspiration batteries and the so-called comfort store. Have a great end to this wild week - preferably with lots of knitting time!

Hello,
I would like to knit the shawl Elli. I can't see if the Como lind or Sage go together harmoniously with the Cardiff Mose. I would be happy to hear from you.
Kind regards Rita
Dear Rita,
Both of the Como green shades you mentioned harmonize with the Cashmere Classic in Mose, but they are different. We have the color dove blue for the Como as a real match for Mose. You can see this color combination in the pictures with the light blue model.
Best regards
Louisa
Hallohoho, thank you so much for all the beautiful and inspiring knitting ideas. In fact, I am 'blown away' by the Marie Cardigan by Miriam Walchshäusl. Is there a pattern somewhere? I've searched but unfortunately haven't found anything. I look forward to your feedback. Many thanks in advance.
Dear Doris, the pattern are still being tested 🙂 As soon as they are available, I will let you know at Saturday Coffee! Best wishes and how nice that you like our little coffee. Best regards, Sophia
