Strawberry ice cream, the sound of the sea, a walk in the woods or a cinnamon bun: they all sound tempting, don't they? I, for one, would grab them all in a heartbeat. What's behind the terms (that is, besides a great desire for spring and sunshine and lightness): Color suggestions for our Mother's Day shawl this year. So a wonderful good morning to Saturday Coffee, where I'll tell you all the important things about the Scarf Salma and the Mother's Day Knit-Along. Make yourselves comfortable!

Say hello to Salma!

From now on you can buy the kits for our this year's Mother's Day Shawl Salma Mother's Day. We have many different variations for you, which I will also show you in a moment. But there are two important changes this year: it's not a mystery knit-along, and it's not a new design. Instead, we've revisited an older scarf and, if I may say so myself, made it even more beautiful.

None of this was planned. But as it is with plans - sometimes you have to change them. And so you already know what to expect. Definitely a plus for all those who were not sure about a Mystery Knit-Along so far.

The originally envisioned design is not lost either, don't worry! But during a meeting, Marisa happened to measure our patchwork cloth again. And then came up with the idea with Sandra that this model two-threaded from Sensai would get a completely new coat of paint after all.

And so Sandra again plundered her supplies and knitted away. We have revised the pattern a bit (the increases and decreases are now even nicer) and now suggest two versions: double-threaded in Sensai (60% mohair, 40% silk) or double-threaded in Kosho (90% virgin wool, 10% cashmere).

You have eight different kits to choose from

You can choose from a total of eight kits. The quantity is because we want to make the color choice as easy as possible. Whether four-color with or without gradient, from Kosho or Sensai, whether with a contrasting color or colorful mixed ... I would say: With Salma there are no limits to your imagination. As always, the pattern are also available separately. So you can also take yarn from the stash and work with a different gauge. Just note that the size of your finished scarf may change.

Our samplers (thanks at this point to Sandra, Sibel, Lina, Silvie and Louisa!) each had a length of about 190 cm (Sensai) or 180 cm (Kosho) and a depth of about 90 cm(Sensai) or 85 cm (Kosho). So it will be big and cozy in any case, but still delicate and light. Just the way we love it!

By the way, the cloth is started at the bottom tip. From there you work triangle by triangle. I have knitted this model a few years ago and find it suitable for beginners. If you know the increases and decreases, you can dare!

The start of our Knit Alongs is April 1. Those who have already purchased the tutorial in its original version will automatically receive an update on that day via their respective customer account.

All who buy now will receive "only" the cover sheet and material info for now. Because even though it's not a Mystery Knit-Along this year, we've divided the shawl into three parts so we can have common stages and admire each other's progress. We are so excited to see what yarn and colors you decide to use.

If there are any problems with the update, please send us an email to "support@maschenfein.de". But give us a little time: Due to the large number of participants, it usually takes a while to send out the pattern. But on April 1, everyone should have received the compinstructionsttern in the course of the morning. We have calculated one week per section - but please don't stress. The Knit Along is meant to be fun, distracting, and perhaps comforting. After all, the name Salma means "peaceful" and that's all we want more in these times.

We take it up a notch

Since we've been working with our graphic designer Stine, we love to provide you with a little goodie every now and then. And what would the Knit Along be without an extra surprise or two? Exactly.

It's the little things in life ...

So imagine a proper drum roll at this point. Curtain up for: a Mother's Day card to print out, a template for a banderole, so that you can give your finished cloth nicely packaged gift, two wallpapers for your smartphone (once with a ball of Sensai, once the sketch of the cloth) and a blank sketch to print and color. This way you can mix and match colors to your heart's content. A mandala for knitters, so to speak. Is that something or is that something? That is something, I think! I've linked all the stuff in this paragraph, you can download the wallpapers easily with a right click. Oh, and in the gif search on Instagram you can find more gifs for our Mother's Day Knit-Along under the keyword maschenfein. Of course, you can also share your progress and results on social media at any time. Just use the hashtags #maschenfeinmuttertag2022, #maschenfeinmuttertagsKAL and/or #maschenfeinstrickrunde. So, now I'm really done!

And now a bit of net talk

I had first considered whether I present more designs today, but I think with the presentation of the Mother's Day shawl is this Käffchen already pretty strong 😉 Also, I want to save something for next week Saturday! That's when I want to set off some real fireworks for you guys, since this will be my last Saturday coffee before baby break. That makes me already incredibly wistful, but in the fall we read us then again. Until then, three great women will take over the text area at Maschenfein and provide you with themed worlds and blogposts.

Saskia has made the beginning: She has put together a inspiration around our wonderful cooperation with the Leipzig fair fashion label Franziska Klee label. Because since yesterday one of our sales slots is running again! For ten days you can order again project bag Mona, needle bag Mara, case Mila and flap case Maja. In the inspiration you can learn everything about the sustainable manufacturing process of the products, why Franzis natural leather is so special and how production and shipping work. So feel free to click over after your Saturday coffee and read on!

Maschenfein knitting round

Did you know that Salma is already our fourth Mother's Day shawl? I remember very clearly how I have struck in 2019 with baby next to me Zora. To this day, I love wearing this scarf so much and am thinking about knitting myself another one (I may have smeared chocolate on it once and can't get the stain out properly. So quite possibly).

After that came Amelia with the unmistakable wave pattern (this is actually missing in my collection !!11!1) and then Carla. Here I broke out of my color scheme and into Sandra's color scheme. I have no regrets, I must say, but have now put pink back in for safety with Salma. Safe is safe and the comfort zone with me is now once powdery).

Maritime flair, on the other hand, is spread by these two versions of Zora. Once at Nicole and once at Nathalie. The model is knitted from Milano by LAMANA.

Several kits were available at Amelia to choose from. You could - and still can - choose the model for example from Duo from SANDNES or Suave from Pascuali. Here you can see the versions of Bettina (from Duo) and Dagmar (from Tynn Line and Tynn Silk Mohair).

Very tender and light it became then last year with Carla. Here, as this year, we have mainly used ITO yarns: Sensai and Kinu and Shio and Kinu. Ramona for example has chosen the second combination, at Sabine 's you will find the mohair version with Sensai.

You can already see that we are big Sensai-But of course we also have something up our sleeves for all those who would rather not knit this fiber. Feel free to tell us in the comments which variant you choose and also which colors appeal to you in particular.

Have a nice, peaceful weekend. The entire Maschenfein team wishes you lots of fun browsing and knitting!

Dear Sophia,
is there a tutorial for the sweater Marisa is wearing in the photos? ... it is beautiful 🙂
Thank you so much!
Best regards

Oh how beautiful, I like Salma very very much. I still have a lot of Kfo Soft Silk Mohair lying around. But since the Mapro will deviate because of the shorter run, my shawl might get smaller. But I could easily expand, right? It doesn't have to be so mega long, but the width should get there. I don't like it when the side tails are too short.
Have all a nice sunny day.

Sophia

You can basically knit Salma from many yarns, including Soft Silk Mohair, of course 🙂 Since the yarn is "heavier", if you keep the yarn double, your shawl will end up larger rather than smaller. So you don't have to worry about that. You can plan on about two triangles per skein. But I would still do a stitch test to check the knitting pattern. Best wishes and have fun knitting! Sophia
